"This is it folks. This is what it's all about. This is for the whole magilla. For the whole ball of wax. For the whole kit and caboodle. For the whole enchilada. The whole shootin' match. This is for all the marbles." Just had to use the John Candy quote here.

You have the option to pick (only) two here. First pick the team, then how many games to win it all. We'll see if trying to do two separate polls in one works.

I completely forgot it was a 7 game series. I see this going at least 6 or 7 games, both teams are well matched and there'll be big ebbs and flows throughout. Phoenix looks better on paper and is playing well going into it, Vegas eeked out both series wins but has 3 playoff monsters in Wilson, Young and Gray. I can't bet against Wilson in an evenly matched series like this, and Chelsea Gray is one of the most clutch players in league history. I think Vegas takes it.

After watching the tremendously exciting game last night in Vegas the Mercury have to be very encouraged preparing for the final.

While the Aces scored 106 in OT and Wilson, Young, and Chelsea were magnificent, they struggled to beat a team without Kelsey in the second half and very limited Boston due to foul trouble who eventually did foul out.

Indiana particularly in the second half was able to score consistently. Odyssey Sims' performance made one wonder why she hasn't had a career rather than a journey in the w.

So even with Wilson and Young getting theirs the Fever had an opportunity to win this game on the road, 10 and elimination game. White, her staff and team did an amazing job confronting and almost overcoming adversity. Couldn't help but think of Hoosiers.

I really think the first finals game in Vegas will be indicative of the series and it's odd that the road team may have a slight advantage. I will say this is going to be a great opportunity to see two of the greatest players in the game.

Plus it's only a 2-hour drive to Phoenix rather than a 4-Hour drive to Vegas. And I can stay away from Griff Town while enjoying a playoff game.

I will say the atmosphere at the Mandalay Bay arena was electric.

I was thinking about my time and cost and whether it was worth it. With gas and parking as well as the ticket it was 150 bucks plus 8 hours to get there. So the single game consumed the same resources I invest for an entire season with either the lopes, jack's, or Sun devils.

It was worth it. Couple of indications of why this entertainment, which was 20 to 30 times the resource cost of a single college game, was the experience of playoff basketball at the professional level.

I'd do it again.

The atmosphere. 11, 000 fans who were totally in the game. Plus I got Vegas Aces towel. .... With the queen of hearts. Couldn't help but think of Juice Newton as the Fevers failed while playing with the queen of hearts.

The level of basketball with perhaps the exception of Aces' defense was completely off the hook. These professional ballers can do unbelievable things offensively. One example which hasn't been mentioned by any of the pundits came late in the evening.

After the game went into overtime the Arena is going insane with everyone twirling the queen of hearts. The teams come out and for the first time that I can remember in a long time the Aces won the tip. Anyway the first two made shots in the OT..... Jewel Lloyd threes. I was stunned as her performance in regulation would have to be described as pedestrian at best. And yet here she is she rises to the moment. All her points in the OT. And that 6 point lead held up!

In any event, this type of storybook scenario is one that I've only rarely seen at the college level. And never in an arena packed with screaming fans (I'm thinking of the Lopes overcoming a 19-point lead against Saint Mary's with 7 minutes left in the game).

But indicative of the entertainment value of this game came after the conclusion. Typically what happens when I'm leaving the college game is I walk out of the arena get in my car and I get home within 15 minutes. Given the bizarre Mandalay Bay egress and the full house it took 15 minutes to get out of the arena. The entire time you could hear the fan screaming Aces! I mean it really took me back to my youth and a Steely Dan concert. So I take the escalator up to the 4th floor of the Mandalay Bay parking garage which is even worse than the egress from the arena. I sit outside my car and read a book for about 25 minutes until the garage empties. Then the drive home.

I guess what I'm saying is these examples of unbelievable fan engagement at a scale are for me a major part of the experience. And much more intense, vivid and to share with thousands or other hundreds it for a memorable experience

That said these finals should be very intriguing and if the Mercury are able to generate enough offense against the Aces and I think they will this may be an opportunity to hang another championship banner in Phoenix. I'm just thinking of a team that at one point had former Mercury players Turner, and Peddy, as well as Powers on the floor at the same time.... and they were able to hang with the Aces. I think the Mercury would have had very little problem expandingly with that trio on the floor.

Love it. 😁

I won't be so bold as to make a prediction, but this is the most surprising Finals match up since the Sky vs. the Mercury.

I was rooting for the Fever, but I couldn't imagine them playing in a 7-game series against the Mercury.

This is going to be an interesting matchup. If Copper and Sabally have big scoring games they can win, but both have been a little inconsistent. I'm interested to see the Mercury's small ball lineup against the Aces.

Mmmm, I have no idea either. Excited to watch! I think the Mercury could strike gold.

Missed a great opportunity for a casino pun here, in my opinion. 😉

This Aces team might win it, but they have been far from impressive, are nowhere near as good as their championship years, and have kind of backed their way into the finals. The first two rounds were ugly wins, that on paper should have been easier. The path for Phoenix was far different, they beat the defending champion, then the team that was considered the title favorite.

I am rooting for the Aces because Las Vegas is a part time seasonal residence for me, (despite their two stars being from South Carolina and Notre Dame), but this team is very hard to figure out. I'm guessing they are somewhere in between the team that started 14 and 14, and the one that then ran off 16 wins in a row.

They used to have 4 star starters, a complimentary 5th, and another good three subs for a very strong first 8. Wilson and Young are the same, but Gray is aging and Plum was traded for another player in decline in Lyod. Stokes is also on the downside and rarely used now and the bench is mediocre at best.

Despite that, I thought the top two would insure a start that was well above .500, so that was almost inconceivable to me, but equally surprising was the win streak, with Smith being the only significant change. In the playoffs they have been clearly better than the former but nowhere near the later.

In terms of how they are playing now, I think Phoenix would be favored, but Vegas doing better head to head, is their best reason for optimism. Matchups can make a big difference. There are not many players that can slow down Wilson or Thomas.

That might have been why the Aces had a harder time in the first two rounds than expected, Boston on Indiana might be the best in the league defending Wilson, and Malonga is so long and athletic that she had some success too. AT is such a physical unique player that it will be interesting to see how Vegas tries to defend her. If they can make it hard for her I think they win, but it's up for grabs, and neither approaches the super teams of the last few years.

Like you stated, defending A'ja is going to be a much harder task for Phoenix. They don't have the bigs to match up, so it's probably going to have to be a committee of players giving her different looks between Mack, Sabally, DB, and AT.

FWIW I was looking at their game logs and A'ja didn't play in the only game where the Mercury beat the Aces this regular season. They have played 5 times with the Aces having 1 blowout win, 3 close wins, and 1 close loss (without A'ja). A'ja also had some monster games against them. I think I saw she was close to a 30/20 game in one of the wins.

I just don't think the Mercury can do enough to slow A'ja. They're a better team, but it is a bad matchup for them. I'm assuming LV finds a way to win one game with Wilson having a normal to off night, and gets three wins in her WOW games.

And they have Kalani Brown on the roster, but is used minimally. One would think that a player of her size could be helpful during this series, but I don't foresee her getting much playing time.
