Personally, I'd rather Faris had not gone to the Sun. But congrats Kelly! It'll be great to see you play this summer!

Amazing to me that when Geno says (paraphrasing) "Kelly is a top two of people he's coached who have not been All American", that WNBA coaches all think they know better.
 
Dang - by the time she made it to 11 I was really hoping she would make it to 12 and join Maya in MN! Not sure I trust the new Sun coach and I think the team is not as good a fit as MN would be. In some ways it seems she duplicates talent they already have.
Totally agree a few of the teams from 4- 10 are going to be bummed they passed on Kelly.
 
As expected. The mock drafts that were picking on pure scoring talent and flash (the type of stuff that keeps GMs employed) passed over Farris in the first round. Most mock drafts went that way. Those that considered the homer angle had the Sun.

Congatulations to MS. Farris. A fan favorite I'm sure she won't disappoint.
 
Yo, "Coach" Peck! If Mike T. is gonna help develop Kelly, they're gonna have to trade her to DC.:confused:

Greene and Hightower are already there. So I'm not sure if all 3 will still be on the team...

I agree, she would have been a great fit with the Lynx.
 
I was hoping for Indiana or Minnesota, but I'm happy for Kelly to be going to the Sun.
 
I was so hoping for the Fever or the Lynx...but it got so I just wanted to be sure she went in the first round.

Exactly. They tried to talk to Griner, who still cannot talk. What a waste,. At least Kelly can talk.

I think Mulkey has been a decent coach, but I hold this against her.

There was absolutely no question when Griner was going to go, there was no question who was going to pick her. Write out a speech and practice it. Over and over. This is Kim's fault, and it isn't the first time.

Hadn't really thought about it but Chicago is going to be very interesting next year with EDD and Sylvia. Not sure what the rest of their team looks like, but that is a pretty interesting pair.

I can't believe no one called her on it, although I walked out, so if it happened later, I missed it.

Peck is SO clueless. My jaw dropped when I heard her say that.
 
Kelly won't have to buy a cup of coffee in this state. Her wnba salary will go further as a result.

No I am really excited about that team - Sylvia and Swin at 4 and 5, EDD as the 2/3 with prince and CV - that should be a killer starting line-up.
 
Prediction:

At the WBCA game, young girls were flocking to EDD as if she were the Pied Piper. Elena is very gracious. Her jersey will be the top seller of the rookies--more than Skylar's--and among the top 5 in the league. Folks will want to erect another statue outside the arena when her career is done.

I sat here and my mouth fell open and I thought: HUH??? You had the last 6 months to think of something to say!! Give her a que card and sell Nikes. Sheesh.
 
It is a surprising pick given the presence of Kalana and Ally Hightower, and yes, it's possible that one of the three will be trade bait (or may be cut if that doesn't work out). Kelly isn't the scorer that Hightower sometimes is, but on every other dimension, I would consider her game to be better than either of theirs. There is no doubt that Kelly's college career at UConn was superior, statistically and otherwise, to Kalana's. But the appearance that the pick creates is poor -- it looks like a sop to UConn fans rather than a serious basketball pick.

I think the Sun were in the position of picking the best available player regardless of position, and now they will be a little thin in the front court without Asjha. (Will Kelly again have to be a backup 4?) It will be interesting to see if Johanna Leedham turns out to be a serious WNBA player.

I have to question why the Indiana Fever picked Clarendon ahead of the local girl, looking at their business situation (none too great attendance for such a good team) as well as their basketball situation. I will admit to not having seen a lot of Clarendon, but judging from the NCAA tournament, I can't see her contributing at anything near the level of Kelly.

I still find it interesting that none of the other Baylor seniors are even being mentioned -- aren't they better than than Kamiko Williams?

The best thing about Carolyn Peck: She acts like guys really care about her opinions on basketball . That's why I'm watching you Carolyn. Yes siree.
