Phee, as captain, chose Stewie and Paige as fellow starters on her team. She should have grabbed Gabby, too.

Avert your eyes, English teachers.

Although Clark wasn't necessarily interested in trading players from her roster, she announced that her and Collier agreed to trade coaches. That means Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello will be paired with Ionescu on Clark's team, and Collier will be led by her Lynx head coach, Cheryl Reeve.

Glad you gave the heads up about the mangling of the English language before I read that...

I think Caitlin has the stronger team

Missing, and still getting little respect: Azura' Stevens. Having her best WNBA season( 15 pts, 9 rebounds), stats better than Thornton. Azura is a good defender, shooting 51% and 39%
( gotta be the best 6'6" three point shooter in the league) . I guess they needed someone from the Valkyries. Of course, won't see Azura' mentioned much on the Boneyard.

The votes are a combination of fans, media and WNBA players. Based on this article from AP News, Stevens didn't make the Top 40 in fan voting. It's unlikely that Thorton got the nod just because she's part of the Valkryies. Maybe the Sparks could have done a better job promoting her case when voting was open to the public?

I know it's just one exhibition game, but I imagine that it will be a thrill for Paige to get to play for Cheryl Reeve, as she grew up an ardent fan of the Lynx.
Cheryl was also a big fan of Paige. I just think of an interview she did a couple of years ago when she used a fictitious name for Paige (I just can't remember the name) and said she would love to draft her for the Lynx. I wish she was able to.

Well we know what the fan voting is all about. True, maybe the Sparks didn't promote her case. Would be interested to see how she did with the media and players.

Not to detract from Azurá's fine season but Thornton is IMO very deserving. Long renowned as one of the best defenders in the league, and having a breakout season on offense.

I would have put Azurá ahead of Citron or Iriafen, but in the end there are always close calls and worthy candidates who don't make the cut.

I simply posted photos of the teams of the players selected. I made no statement whatsoever regarding player availability or anything else for that matter.

So, I'm curious as to why you didn't make your response to @HuskyNan? She's the person who opened the thread, posting a link to an article which listed the players selected.
Why is this a problem?

I simply posted thoughts on the roster situation after reading recent updates on Wilson's situation and Sabally's absence.

Not responding to anyone or anything in particular but IMO this is a very talented group of All Stars. Maybe some think there should be others on or not on the starting or reserve lists but if you watch womens basketball to any extent you have to admire each and every one because they all have put the time in and work hard every day to be the best that they can be.

I haven't gone digging into the stats, but... Jonquel Jones?!?

I don't get it - how do you justify Citron AND Iriafen on it over Sykes? Kiki does not deserve it IMHO. 12 PPG??? Hamby got jobbed as did Sykes. Hamby - 17 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 3.8 APG, 2 steals per game. I get LA probably didn't do any pushing for her, but it's seems wrong the 2 Washington rookies are on the team over Sykes and Hamby... I also think McBride was snubbed.

She's the 3rd leading scorer on the 2nd worst team in the league. Pretty tough sell trying to convince anyone she was short changed. Hamby was also left off and it's hard to say Stevens was more deserving than Hamby.

It's impossible to justify when you look at how the votes work out. With a breakdown of 50% for the fan vote, 25% each for media and WNBA players, it's always going to be skewed towards the fans.

In addition, I learned from watching a Jemele Hill podcast that WNBA players can only vote for 4 players for the front court and back court position. When fans have the ability to vote multiple times while WNBA players and media can do it once, this is what we'll get.

I guess should not be getting too worked up over a game that is really not a game. I remember well all star games that were serious games, and fun to watch.
