Wisconsin State Tax to fund NIL

So now we are moving to using taxpayer dollars to pay kids for playing at the ole State U? Yeah this is ridiculous and won’t be sustainable.

.-.
we always have been..scholarships.
But then people complain about the huge inflation in tuition rises.

Which have been driven by a 60% cut in state subsidies for the last 2 decades +.

So we can't have it both ways.

This is more bread and circuses.

I would not at all be opposed if Connecticut did this. It would give us a huge advantage over the other big east schools and help us stay competitive with the power conference programs. There are no professional sports in Connecticut and UConn basketball creates economic value, plus there are the intangibles of what it does for the community and bringing people together. In my opinion, would be money well spent recitative to other things our tax dollars are wasted on.

.-.
I'm confused, the article mentioned nothing about a tax to fund NIL. It just mentions state funding for facility debt service and the codifying of NIL rules.

Meanwhile schools around country are cutting academic programs and some non revenue sports because money is so tight. How did this get approved?

Connecticut should do it.

Hear me out.

The state is willing to spend millions and millions to try to attract mid-level musical acts to Hartford. Probably won't work - Mohegan has that locked down.

Why not invest a fraction of that into UConn athletics? You know what will sell more tickets than Imagine Dragons? A 10-1 UConn football team in November. A #1 ranked UConn men's or women's team in February.

Invest in what works.

.-.

I would. Name one thing your tax dollars buys that's a bigger waste than paying a kid to play college basketball. One thing we take for granted around here is our roads. I learned that during my roadtrip during last weekend.

Your roads are shit. Plus, you're the worst drivers on the planet so even if the roads were not shit, no one can make use of them because you've caused a traffic jam because the sun got in your eyes, you spilled a Dunkin's or you just felt like stopping. Zero dollars for roads in next year's budget.

We're spending that money on skill players for Jason Candle. You can walk.

Honestly, legislation should be filed to tax every northeast state and all that revenue goes to NIL at UConn. NY, NJ and all of New England. Let’s be honest - as far as public schools go - UConn is the only game in town and the best too. No one needs good roads in any of these states.

As a WI resident who's state and local taxes continue to increase, this is without a doubt one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. Especially when our government won't approve online sports gambling, but I'm not sure how pay for play on college kids is that much different from gambling on their upside and skill. I just want to legally download some Fanduel or BetMGM. 😀 😀 😀

maybe the best idea I've ever heard

Actually a bill signed at the same time allows online sports betting. It has to go through the local casinos and may take some time to implement, but it's a done deal. You will soon be able to lose your kids tuition or home online soon 😉.

Toll readers on 84, 91 and 95.

Scan plates. Connecticut plates, no fee. Out of state, fee.

Give all the money to Dan Hurley and Jason Candle. Geno already has enough.

I would not be opposed either, mostly because I am not a Connecticut resident.

(Actually I hate every new development is the NAL debacle, this one included.)
