OT: Winter Olympics Watch

A new hero to celebrate is Nick Baumgartner from Michigan. He is a 44 year old snowboard cross competitor. He failed to make the finals but left this quote, “I never had so much fun losing in my life, competing for my country”. He gets it IMHO.
Many years ago a friend in England had a neighbor, a young woman who qualified to compete in the Olympics in rhythmic gymnastics. She was hoping to finish in the top two dozen, and was ecstatic when she wound up 23rd.

Michael Scott of The Office said that Franklin was one of our great presidents.
😁 Along with Presidents Hamilton, Hancock and McArthur.

Come to think of it Broadway could make some musical about Franklin.

Ben already wrote the lyrics for hits like "A Penny saved...", and "Come on lightnin', hit that key".

After a couple of days without medals USA women grab gold and bronze in bobsled. Way to go ladies.

It wasn't just a small amount. It was something like 8 points lower than the French pair. 5 out of the 9 judges had the US team first. They should have won. What a shame.
Thanks for saying that 5 of 9 had the US winning. The stupid news blurb I saw just said that if they French Judges score was thrown out the US team would have won. Okay but how did the other judges actually score it? How much different from the other judges was the French judge’s score.

Anyway, I thought both pairs were really awesome but I know nothing about scoring figure skating.

6 of 9 judges had the 2 pairs within 1 point of each other, including the USA judge who had the French team ahead of the US team by less than a point. The judges from Spain & Finland had the US team winning by 3-4 points. The French judge had the French team winning by a wopping 7.7 points. Had the French judge scored the French team better than the US team by 6 points or less, the US team would have won.

Not a good Olympics for NBC. the worst coverage in recent memory. Watching live broadcasts, I have had at least 5 times where nbc cut to commercials just when the USA was about to preform, come back no reshow of our athletes, a few, pairs ice skating, men's big hill ski jumping women's skiing and more. They have also showed an event gotten to the last 4 or five participants and switched to another event without going back to finish the event. I expect more, we and our athletes deserve better.

Watching on the Peacock streaming channel, and it's much better. By the time the broadcast is on, everyone knows who won what, so we do the replay thing, where you can fast forward, replay, etc. The Olympic live broadcasts have always been frustrating with sponsor breaks, human interest stories that most of us knew about anyway, etc. Couple that with time changes, replay is the way to go...

Two awesome comebacks today. Congratulations to the USA Women’s Hockey Team on wining Gold with a 2-1 overtime victory over Canada. Then Alysa Liu moved up from third place to Gold in Women’s Figure Skating. Just an awesome afternoon at the Winter Olympics.

No mention of Sarah Nurse on the losing Canadian side in hockey today? I do remember her from the last time around but I still got a nice chuckle out of it.

There was, indeed, a Broadway musical about Franklin (even excluding 1776) entitled "Ben Franklin in Paris" starring Robert Preston. I don't think that it was a hit, but the one number i remember from the cast recording was "God Bless the Human Elbow (a delightful song about the joys of drinking).
