Both offense and pitching came through today. Great performance from Cooke, need him in the post season.
I really believe we are in the tournament. Ended up with 17 conference wins and we have won 22 of last 27 games. If we win the BE tournament I think we are a 2 seed. I wouldn’t have believed 6 weeks ago, that we would be talking about a possible 2 seed in regional. This may not be a vintage UConn team, but they showed a lot of toughness.

Chart is all Green

Go Huskies!!

post season Criteria
(1) 32 - 21/ .604.... 33- 24 / .579
(2) 12 - 3 / .800….. 11 - 4 / .733
(3) 39.... < 49Team RPI
(4) 7th........ < 8 Conf RPI
(5) 1st ........ Top 2 Big East

"UConn, meanwhile, is a lock after finishing the regular season with a win against Butler to win the Big East by three games with a 17-4 record and a No. 37 RPI."

This is where the 2-seed talk is coming from. Big West a one-bid league? Bottom of that league is that bad? A shocker to me. They are getting at least 2 in for sure - UCSB and UCI. Big East should get two if RPI means anything at all. It won’t if we win the tourney. Heck, bias against underfunded programs and crappy fields has our own reasonable fans questioning the league. I think one win in tourney cements it.

The SEC is ridiculous

Five teams are tied for seventh place with a 13-17 record in the league, and all five will play on Tuesday. Each team’s RPI is 30 or better, which suggests all five are in decent shape to receive an at-large bid. If all five do make it, the SEC would send a record 11 teams to the NCAA Tournament. Here’s a quick look at the SEC’s bubble, in order of seed at the SEC tournament, with each team’s RPI and KPI (a metric the selection committee will be using this year) as well as first-round opponent:

  • No. 7 Alabama (33-21 overall, RPI 18, KPI 17, vs. South Carolina)
  • No. 8 Vanderbilt (35-20 overall, RPI 27, KPI 19, vs. Florida)
  • No. 9 Florida (28-26 overall, RPI 24, KPI 20, vs Vanderbilt)
  • No. 10 South Carolina (33-21, RPI 19, KPI 22, vs. Alabama)
  • No. 11 LSU (36-20, RPI 30, KPI 21 vs. Georgia)

FIRST FOUR OUT: Cincinnati, Louisville, California, Xavier
East Carolina Region is what I’m hoping for. Uconn seems to play well there and I think they’d be fairly confident no matter the bracket. Maybe either NC State or UCSB Region should one of those teams host. I’ll take a rematch with UCSB.

All four teams they played are first 4 out. crazy
That’s not good lol. I’m really starting to hope for a 3 seed even if they win out and get a 2 somewhere. On paper and without obviously knowing the teams, it might make for an easier road to the Supers.

St. John's and Georgetown are currently not projected here to make the tournament either in addition to Xavier. It will be interesting to see if one of those teams make the NCAA Tournament if they get to the Big East Tournament finals.

D1 baseball podcast wasn’t to high on any of them making it as an at large other then UConn who they said was a lock. Xavier really shot themselves in the foot last weekend.

Unfortunately LSU is up by 8 runs in 9th and will probably be in. They were talkinf on SEC telecast that 11 SEC teams could make it which is ridiculous.

Florida could be a .500 overall team with 19 losses in the SEC, 5 under .500. I don’t care what their RPI is, that’s not bid worthy.

”Baseball America will update this Projected Field of 64 post daily throughout the week with all the latest results. While there is still some projection in this update, that is rapidly being washed out and turned into an evaluation of what the selection committee is expected to do.”
