Hibbert couldn't even run up and down the floor when he first got to Georgetown, he was like McBride at UCF, the starting point for him at Georgetown was well behind Thabeet. He made massive improvements while there, he wasn't a disappointment at all. As for the people mentioning Drummond, both Hibbert and Monroe were featured guys at Georgetown(and Monroe was a C at Geogetown) and the offenses ran through them to a large degree, we all know that wasn't the case here with Drummond, and I don't blame the coaches for that because he wasn't ready for that responsibility. But when you look at how Georgetown uses their bigmen in both the high and low post I can see how that can be more appealing to Govan.
Judging by his performance in the playoff, Hibbert is still having a hard time running up and down the floor.

obviously the 2nd half thru postseason was a disaster for Hibbert, but hey he's at least still playing in the NBA. From 04-09, we had a run of 5 big men that were drafted in the 1st round, 4 lottery, and now if you were to tune into the NBA this season you wouldn't have even seen them, and for 4 of them its been like that for quite some time. You can't say Ewing, Mourning, etc was a long time ago and then prop our big men with the way they've performed. Hell, when SI did that feature on Drummond last year they had mentioned how our big men flaming out the league was being held against Drummond come draft time, thinking it would be a percursor to his failure.

While definitely true that none are near Hibbert of the five you mention, of those five, only Boone has washed out of the league as of this year. Also Adrien was on a roster and playing decently.

Next year will probably be more instructive as it's possible Thabeet, Armstrong, Adrien and Villanueva could all be out of contract, I think. Okafor should be back and healthy though. All those guys have played 5-10 years in the league already (Adrien aside).

Hibbert is a pretty good center and with Noah probably the one who developed the best in college. Most of the other good young bigs are one and dones (Cousins, Drummond, Davis) or foreign.

Geez guys while they are pretty good players let's not make Ewing, Dikembe….many years…….Monroe and Hibbert into the best school to go to if you're a center looking to make it big……..yikes way too much credit.

Why shouldn't Georgetown get credit for Monroe and Hibbert? Both of them developed a lot while there and are now among the best big men in the league (or at least were before Hibbert fell off a cliff). UConn's reputation regarding big men is kind of dicey at the moment, Okafor played here over a decade ago and hasn't played in over a year, Thabeet was a massive bust, and Hilton and Boone both washed out. Drummond's pretty much been carrying the UConn flag all by himself and he was going to be a stud no matter where he went.

when I said you couldn't actually see them play I didn't mean they were all literally out of the league but at this point they might as well be. I'm not really sure what's going on with Okafor and if he's going to be back healthy since there has been literally not a peep about him since his injury. As for CV/Thabeet/Armstrong, Armstrong just clawed his way back into the league and collectivelly all 3 guys are basically cheerleaders. Adrien is actually a success story and I expect him to stick around in the league for a bit, I didn't group him with the others since he's an undersized PF and wasn't a high draft pick that has since flamed out like the other guys.

What did you like about Hibbert at Georgetown?

He was a well-rounded player. From his sophomore year on, he was a very capable scorer who also rebounded at a fairly high rate. His real impact, though, was in his ability to protect the rim. There not being a defensive three second call in college, he was somebody who was capable of changing games on that end. Not like Thabeet could, but close. Conditioning was probably Roy's biggest problem in college.
