:D

- 6-10 center Jessie Govan said his decision to become a Hoya instead of a Husky came down to wanting to be part of the big man tradition at Georgetown.

It's been a long time since Ewing and Mutumbo Jess……...
Did someone explain to him the other Georgetown tradition: not winning the title for 30 years. Ewing is an old man.

Although I think the chances of them coming to UConn are slim the thought of Stone and Newman in Husky uniforms makes me a very happy man.

Kind of cool that Alex Kline has been able to put all this together. I remember when he was posting on TOS as a wide-eyed 15/16 year old. Good for him.

Interesting that Donovan Mitchell's interest in us has picked up since Prince's decommit

Interesting, but not at all surprising. I wonder how JA and the Newman/Stone combo feel about it. Wonder if/how much KO will be using it in his recruiting these other players

They still churn out "decent" big men. Monroe/Hibbert...

Exactly my point…..think about when Patrick and Dikembe played and it's now 2014 and you came up with 2….TWO!! UConn has had more big men in the NBA and their known as wing U…

Monroe & Hibbert are actually playing in the NBA though, UConn's run of big men really went from the Okafor through Thabeet era and when you turn on an NBA game in 2013-2014 could you actually find Okafor, CV, Armstrong, Boone, and Thabeet logging any minutes?

But we're not "Center U" either……..so add Travis Knight and Jake V to that and they all are/were making some money…….considering we're "Wing U" our centers have had a more consistent impact on college hoops!

Well I think Jessie was talking more about developing him into an nba big. Which Georgetown has done pretty well. Better than any other school has.

Geez guys while they are pretty good players let's not make Ewing, Dikembe….many years…….Monroe and Hibbert into the best school to go to if you're a center looking to make it big……..yikes way too much credit.

Ewing, Mourning and Mutumbo is pretty damn good but they it's been 25 years since they were at Georgetown. As for today Drummond is better than Monroe and Hibbert.

I'm going out on a limb, but I'm guessing Govan knows his game at the next level won't be similar to Drummond's but more like Monroe's & Hibbert's. Neither Monroe or Hibbert were known for their athletic abilities. They got to the NBA based on skill & smarts that didn't involve being overly athletic. Hibbert was quite uncoordinated & a bit chunky when he got to GTown. He slimmed down, improved his food speed & skills a lot at GTown. UConn has been known for athletic, shot blocking guys, which Govan will never be. Different kinds of bigs. Though I would have loved Govan at UConn. Too early to know how Ollie develops big guys.

My point exactly…..that's a huge gap from those 3 great centers to 2 somewhat still unknown NBA C's……..25 years ago Jessie wan't even trickling down dads leg……

I wouldn't call Hibbert and Monroe unknown Cs. Hibbert while proving to be very soft in this playoffs was considered one of the best Cs in the NBA last season and was an all star. Monroe is a very talented big in the NBA that has had the misfortune of playing for bad teams and now playing with the next big thing at C. Both of these guys GTown had a huge hand in developing unlike UConn with Drummond. Only school with as much success with bigs is Kentucky and they didn't have much of a hand in developing Cousins and Davis either.

Isn't Monroe considered a power forward? He was playing PF before Drummond got there. If you're going to consider PFs, that changes the equation a bit.

Also, Hibbert wasn't nearly as good as he is now at Georgetown. In fact, he was considered somewhat of a disappointment.

Hibbert couldn't even run up and down the floor when he first got to Georgetown, he was like McBride at UCF, the starting point for him at Georgetown was well behind Thabeet. He made massive improvements while there, he wasn't a disappointment at all. As for the people mentioning Drummond, both Hibbert and Monroe were featured guys at Georgetown(and Monroe was a C at Geogetown) and the offenses ran through them to a large degree, we all know that wasn't the case here with Drummond, and I don't blame the coaches for that because he wasn't ready for that responsibility. But when you look at how Georgetown uses their bigmen in both the high and low post I can see how that can be more appealing to Govan.
