Why would a recruit choose UConn?

At 17 I would never have been able to learn from Geno's sarcastic style and public (in front of the team, sometimes to the media) criticism. I would have leaned much more towards Sylvia Hatchell, who has the reputation for finding the good and encouraging it into the better. And I would have thought that NC had a good shot at an NC, too--or at least a Final Four.

Of course, when I was 17, Geno and Sylvia weren't coaching, and the NCAA tournament wasn't even a thought in someone's head. . . :)

one man's ceiling is another man's floor. the trappings of UConn's success is a huge draw indeed, but at the end of the day it is all about fit....is the recruit comfortable with the coaches, what's expected of them regarding practices and team rules, the other girls, the school, the ambiance? That is the determining factor I think. Geno says UConn is not for everyone.

For me, at 17, I wanted to be challenged and always sought to work with people better than me to make me work to be better. this is not everyone's cup of tea.

Four were to Uconn- 1995, 2000, 2003, 2004!

This on top of the USC loss in 1984.

Plus there was the national semis shallacking in 2002.

Yes, the LVs will always have the 1996 national semis and the 1997 regional finals, but that's still gotta sting a lot. It's no wonder UConn is so hated.
UTenn has been to the 18 times and come away with 8 NCs, which is clearly impressive since you would expect at 1/4 odds of winning 4 to 5 titles. But UConn has amazingly even managed a winning record during its 14 trips to the FF and more than doubled the expected number of titles during the visits.

But no, Vol fans all accept this placidly with no animus whatsoever.

There are a number of reasons why a recruit would not choose UCONN. It is well known that Geno's practices are a lot harder then the actual games. Some recruits don't want to put in the necessary work that is needed to play for UCONN. The recruits that play for UCONN are rewarded with a National Championship. These UCONN recruits are very special players.

Recruits committing for 2014 get to play 1 year with, KML, Stokes, Banks, Stewart, Tuck, Jefferson, and 2 with Stewart, Tuck, Jefferson. Between the practices and games you have to become a better player, and have a chance at 2 national championships along the way.

More than that, at least as far as competing for NC's - When the kids in 2014 are sophomores, Stewie, Morgan and Moriah will be seniors and probably all will be AA's, Stewie and Moriah possibly the best in the nation at their positions, and Morgan right up there too.

Add in Saniya who is a legit top 20 kid, and then Courtney and Gabby who are both legit top 10 kids, there's no reason to believe possible NC's won't continue. Of course, landing Wilson from 2014 and then 1 or 2 of the top kids in the 2015 class (Durr and Samuelson) would certainly help also!! I think UCONN is also after Boykin and Collier, also 2 other top kids in the class.

At 17, I wanted to play High School Baseball, Basketball, and Football...and be with my latest babe. That's it.
