I have been a loyal Uconn Fan for over 40 years. I spend hundreds of dollars on Uconn Apparel yearly. I subscribe to HULU live because it covered all my bases. All of ESPN including ESPN Plus. All the Fox Sports Channels including FS1 and FS 2. I also us the Foxsportsgo.com app to watch games as well for the womans games that are on SNY. I live in Tennessee now. I also have CBS SPorts Network for the other games mainly football. I did not need an expensive plan if I was not a Uconn Fan. My point is that this Peacock Baloney is not fair to the loyal fans. How much more do I need to spend. Very disappointing. Mr Benedict, it appears you sold us out.

Everything should be free! We should all work for free.
Well, everyone but me. I mean, I should get paid, and probably paid more than I do now.

The main thing I find annoying about these threads is that everybody immediately assumes it's about the money. I don't care that someone found a 3 month free deal or $20 for the whole year deal. For me, it's the principle of the thing. Content owners are fleecing everybody with this crap of wanting their own streaming platforms. They are also gatekeeping their content and are the reason that every streaming service has to raise their prices every year. They demand ridiculous amounts of more and more money for their content every year. You know why platforms like Netflix have only a handful of great movies and a bunch of crap? It's because they could never afford what the content owners are trying to charge. It was different established rules with DVD rentals which is why Netflix had such an enormous selection of quality movies when it was DVD by mail only.

There is absolutely no reason for these games to not be on regular TV networks.

But it is what it is. Everyone on here is allowed to do what they what, but the more your give in to this stuff, the more it will happen. I will never subscribe to peacock, free or otherwise. VPN + ublock origin + script safe + sketchy website works for me. This method is not for everybody, so I didn't necessarily begrudge anyone that gives in.
This perfectly encapsulates how I feel. To each their own. If people feel like doing it or don’t doing it, it’s their prerogative. Sports are a big business, and over time, it’s steadily been pricing the average fans out in certain ways, mainly at the professional level. There’s nothing wrong with going to a Yard Goats game or a Cape Cod Baseball League game.

Or alternatively, "everybody" assumes that there is no cost to putting on the games on TV. Or alternatively "everybody" assumes that they have the right to whatever they want, whenever they want it, at whatever cost, they deem reasonable, even if that's no cost at all.

Watch the games, don't watch the games, I don't really care. But if you choose to come on The Boneyard to whine about paying $1.67 a month to watch good quality broadcast of Connecticut men's basketball on, don't be surprised if people aren't particularly sympathetic.

It's funny because it would be cheaper and more profitable for everyone if they just went back to leasing IPs out to Netflix in one centralized location. These streaming services all lose money.

To me, whining about the state of streaming is reasonable (to an extent). But directing the anger at the wrong people is just typical behavior nowadays. It's so normalized that it's becoming incredibly annoying.

I guess, but like all whining, people's receptiveness to it is directly inverse to the extent it continues.

There’s whining about a great deal of things like officiating, Hurley’s interactions with the referees, our early season scheduling, where the games are televised, conference realignment, etc etc etc. Depending on the issue, folks will find themselves doing the whining or criticizing those that do. It’s part of fandom. It is what it is. And that’s just in sports. There’s much more whining about life outside of sports lol.

Yep, and all that whining gets blowback. The peacock whining won't be any different.

Sometimes sometimes not. And I see folks that fit both categories plenty on the BY. Lol. And that’s just relative to UConn college basketball. I’ve seen folks come at people pointing out the terrible officiating then whine about Hurley’s attitude with the refs.

Yup... hate
1st world problems
Shoot I remember having my best friend tape games for me VHF and over night them to me when I lived in South Carolina. I would avoid any news for two days and the watch them like it was live. And that was 1990-91.

I guess it may cost money but from my perspective I was paying 10.99 or so to watch every game starting with the year after the Dream Season. I almost did not take a job out of state because of the Huskies.

So for me it’s hard to complain. This team has been a passion with me since I read “Tony Tallies Two” in a headline of the Hartford Courant. That was the year we came back against Hofstra but did not have enough to beat Rutgers in I think the sweet sixteen. Been hooked ever since.

Is showing streaming in a commercial establishment legal? I didn't think so.
I’m not a lawyer. This isn’t really that serious. It was an offhand remark jeez.

There have been multiple 20$/year opportunities for peacock if you’ve been paying attention. This is the norm now and it’s not going away. A year’s subscription costs as much as a meal from Five Guys.

A large fry from Five Guys also lasts a year.

Its the new world, media companies lose money with streaming so they trap you. Notre dame has one peacock exclusive a year. This year Louisville. I had to subscribe to watch 2 breeders cup races. Cost 7 bucks for month, had not cancelled so I could watch it. I would rather pay 7 bucks to watch UConn bb than a movie

Heads up. Peacock is offering the next 3 months for 1.99/month for new customers (or just use a new email). Takes you all the way through the Big East Tournament. Just remember to cancel. Basically the price of 2 free months. Or keep complaining about principle.

I think this is worthy of a new post on the Men's Board.
