Correct you are. So, only worth 668,750,000US using that conversion, correct? Guess I am a little defensive of how quick people were to call her publicity clickbait. That woman was a tough competitor at UConn and is a tougher competitor in the business world. Pretty sure her donation is in US also. A few more folks like Trish and we’d be further up the Ladder.

Our model should be BYU in the 2010s. They had an average record of roughly 8-4 as an indy, peaking in 2020 when they were about a yard away from winning at ranked Coastal Carolina (Mormons vs. Mullets) and going undefeated. BYU has more history than us, but a non-ND with the right resources can be successful in modern times, at least with an ultimate goal of going P4.

Also, it seems like everyone who says a theoretical 12-0 UConn can't make the CFP is assuming the CFP is gonna stay at 12 teams. You know they're just dying to expand to 16 (or more, gross) and it would be criminal to keep any undefeated FBS team out of a 16-team playoff.

Totally agree with you on your point about modeling ourselves after BYU in the 2010s, it's what I've thought we were striving for since we went independent. They relied on their brand name to schedule big time opponents (I don't think they played less than 4 P5s in a year, if they did I believe it was 3, and they had up to 6 on their schedule each year) and create a schedule better than anything they would have had in the MWC. We seem to be taking the same approach, and judging by the steady attendance increase, it has been working (obviously the success of the team has played a huge role in that as well.)

Kind of disagree with you on your point about the CFP. I agree it would be criminal but you know they would contort themselves however they needed to in order to justify giving the slot to a P4. Just thinking about this season; BYU and ND would have easily taken 2 of those slots. Then they have their pick of Vandy, Texas and Utah for the final 2. Whoever didn't get that final slot would be the team the media talked about as being snubbed. I doubt even with a 12-0 record this year and a 16 team playoff we would have gotten serious consideration.

It is what it is. Just keep winning and change the perception over time.

Lol. We all knew this was coming, but I have to admit I'm a little surprised with how quickly it got done. They try to create this illusion that every team has a chance, but as soon as the "G" got 2 teams into the playoff the format had to change.

It could have been worse (which I was fully expecting).

They basically capped G level conference champions at one, which if they had done this from the start, there would have been very few complaints as they would have bumped JMU for ND and altered the seeded.

What they should have done was added a provision where they could select a significantly higher ranked school over the conference champion (Miami over Duke) if there were a ranked non-champion but no ranked champion.

As it pertains to us, I'm curious as to the exact language that gives ND a bid for a top 12 finish. I'm pretty much convinced that at the moment we would need to clearly demonstrate that we have top five team to get enough support to be ranked in their top ten, and then it may take the correct circumstances from other non-champion P-4 schools for us to get a bid.

You might sadly be right, but I feel like the CFP would have put a 12-0 UConn over Utah, even if we were #16 and just awaiting an ass-beating at Indiana. Vandy and Texas, idk, SEC bias would be strong...

That's exactly what it means. If ND finishes in the top 12 (CFP's, not AP or any other ranking) they're in.

Yeah, I imagine this will lead to quite a bit of animosity.

Indiana winning is definitely good for us, I believe there will be a good trickle down effect for us. We are a ways away from Indiana but we are closer to them than people think. Skyler Bell almost went to Indiana, and Indiana just got out strength coach just days after winning the national championship, well stolen from CSU.

I’ll say this for whatever it’s worth. The teams that played in the NC were at that moment the two best teams in college football and one one snuck in. The more the influence and gaming of the system by media whores for the SEC and B1G are muted through more team participation in the playoffs, the better it is for the game. Indiana winning was perfect because it was a historically weak B1G program, so the powerbrokers couldn’t complain. Miami shutdown the ND entitlement mentality that is pervasive there but also in the SEC. It also boosted the ACC. Seeing the Ducks annihilated was perfect payback by the B1G buying trophy programs. The more the entrenched establishment takes a beating, the better. Go UConn!

If this should this be our fate, forever wandering the Independent galaxy like the Silver Surfer, is it going to be enough to continue to field a competitive, watchable supportable Football Team and program? The biggest uncontrollable variable is scheduling. Many have noted how much more palatable our Independent schedule is than our AAC schedule was. Are we going to be prevented from scheduling P32-4 teams in the future?(ACC, B12, BIG, SEC)

Yes, our Indy schedule is way more palatable than the AAC. AD Dave has done a great job scheduling. I can only speculate he is killing time for us until we hopefully upgrade to a conference like the B12, ACC.

I don’t think we get in to a P2-4 conference. My question, concern, fear is that we will be denied the ability to schedule teams from the P2-4 and what does that do to the viability of our program.

If FBS as we know it becomes P2, we will end up playing in a middle tier between the P2 and FCS.

If the P4 model holds, I do think we will find our way out the desert eventually. How successful we can be in a P4 context is an open question.
