With all the speculation and anguish over the fact that we really only have 3 Guards for the next three weeks, why not use Mir for a few minutes here and there to give E, CW and Caroline Ducharme some rest.. She is too short to ever be effective as a PF so she has to be able to help, if at all, as a SF (#3) to be added to the mix of positions 1-3. At least that would give the other 3 p[layers some time to rest during a game.

Mir-the forgotten player! This is her chance to show what she can do to contribute to the Program.

She will get some significant (non-garbage-time) minutes in the next 3 weeks. Having her play in the back court is problematic, however, because of her total lack of a jump shot.

Or maybe she has been working on one and we will now get to see it.

NOW, we want to rest our starters? One game too late.

I think you are forgetting Nika

I think that Mir will work out just fine providing rest time minutes for everyone.
Her leaping ability allows her to make short to mid range jump shots over most defenders.
She'll probably score 4-6-8 points depending on her rebounding.
She's a good foul shooter too.

Mir has a very good jump shot- good form, good lift, good follow through, we just don't see it that often. From the Arkansas game 3:47 mark of the attached video.

I think Mir might be able to bring some good pressure defense. We need to get some easy buckets to calm us down and take pressure off our half court offense. Not sure about her handle? Really never see it.

If she can't hit a jump shot in her second year at UCONN, why is she on a scholarship?
Don’t think I’ve ever heard of a player (in good standing) deprived of her scholarship due to a low shooting percentage. That’s not about to happen even if she never develops a reliable shot. Nor should it, Imo!

I feel like she will be fine on defense, and a superstar rebounder for a wing, maybe a mediocre passer, and weak outside shooter for the positions she will be asked to play.

If Geno wants to innovate a little I wouldn't rule out posting her up against other wings she could jump over. Otherwise her main offensive contribution may be crashing the offensive boards. Remember once a shot was launched, the most valuable offensive player on the second three peat Bulls was Dennis Rodman because he was the player most likely to give them another possession if the shot missed.

This is ONLY based on a snip of "Geno mic'd up for practice" video.

He was yelling at Mir. Something like "What do you mean telling her to move to pass to you? She's double teamed in the corner and can't move. You have to go to her. Why are you telling her to move???????!!!!!"

The "exclamation points" are for emphasis. Geno was shouting at her the entire time. My point is, if a player is double teamed in the corner and can't move, yelling at her to pass to you is just silly. To me that indicates possibly low BBQ.

If she can't understand the concept of a player being unable to see or pass out of a double team when trapped, it's possible she does not understand offense, and with no Paige, any lack of flow will be exacerbated. So if that small snip is indicative of Mir not understanding basketball, then I can see why she's not on the floor.

I realize it’s highlights.
But, what Mir has you cannot coach.
( shades of Gabby)
Not afraid underneath, actually may prefer contact.
Also looks like, underneath, she has an iron grip on the ball- don’t see many knocking the ball away from her.
Well, we’ll find out shortly.

Mir , more than anyone else, might gain from UConn being so shorthanded. Whole lot less pressure if you know that a mistake may not mean you'll be yanked.

Same thing I've seen since before she got to UConn. She had no fundamental coaching in HS and there's very little difference now. There's no way she should have to be told that after a year with any high D1 program.

Mir excels down low, not so much outside. Question - yes, she is a good jumper, but would you want Mir at 5'11" to get more minutes as a big or Amari?

Could Mir provide some depth at guard? Maybe. Since she played essentially a power forward in high school and has had most of her in game minutes at UConn in the front court (at least on offense) I would have to see her handle and ability to handle being pressured bringing the ball up court.

HAVEN’T SEEN AMARI PLAY.

I guess you didn't get the word that Nika is also out.
Your right but I've got it now. Well you play who you have and yes they will make some mistakes but they will get better. Paige was great in 8th grade and had a great well trained outside shot. Mir is like Gabby a little rough in the beginning but look at Gabby now a point guard who shoots 3's and does it all.

Hey...Dennis Rodman didn't have a jumpshot either.
