Article from Borges. He, Hurley and Murray went to see Mullins play on Saturday night.

McNeeley is a likely NBA first-round selection, possibly a lottery pick, in June. That means Mullins will be asked to help fill the void of McNeeley's probable departure.

And Mullins welcomes that challenge.

"Absolutely," he said. "Just watching (McNeeley), he does a lot for the team: play defense, run off ball-screens and shoot the rock at a very high clip. I'm definitely willing to step in that spot, but I'm going to have to work for it."

Why UConn's Dan Hurley believes top recruit Braylon Mullins is a ‘high-end blue-chip talent’

@UCann, these are the type of articles that I was talking about that you don't get without beat writers covering the team. This is what I was talking about in the New London Day thread.

Mullins seems to be Hurleys most hyped recruit to date as I haven’t seen this level of pre-arrival love with any other recruit. The staff kicking out to watch him after the Butler game closing in on the holidays says a lot in of itself. Can’t wait to watch this sharp shooter in a Husky uniform.

Mullins felt like a “must get” for our coaches and to see them close the deal earlier in the year was just huge for the program going forward. I was spending some time earlier in the recruiting cycle in Trilly’s Burner Ball chat and you can tell our program has turned a corner in recruiting. I got the feeling that Hurley was highly respected for his ability to identify talent and then develop his players at a higher level than is being offered at other programs.

High potential prospect, excited to see him play next year. I’ve only seen his highlight vids which are all offense, so I’m hoping he can hold his own on D.

Question: have we ever had a player from Indiana before? I don't remember one.

Live this kid... says the right things

He has the right size, length and mentality. He's never played very good competition, and his HS team only plays zone. They stick him at the front of a 1-2-2 to get a bunch of steals. Sometimes the wing of a 1-3-1. So I'd expect and adjustment period as he learns how to play real defense. High potential though.

Wasn't the 3SSB tour this past spring and summer very good competition? And he was great.

I expected Mullins to be better than McNeeley before the season. now obviously I hope he’s just as good as McNeeley. If he’s better then he will be lottery pick for sure.

It's a 2nd-tier AAU circuit. Fine, just not great. I think the next highest rated recruit was like 20 spots below Mullins

I thought I saw the Mullins family clan sitting behind the UConn bench at the Butler game. I expect great things from Braylon next year after watching some of his highlights. He appears to be a smaller clone of Liam. Liam’s Monteverde highlights looked so similar to what he is now doing here. Absolutely no drop off and virtually no apparent learning curve.

Definitely not as much talent as EYBL. But after all the handwringing on here about Clingan never playing high level competition, and I think you were one of the leading posters on this, I'm not worried about it. He'll be fine.

If Hurley can teach anything it's defense. If he puts in the work, he'll be just fine. Excited to see if he or Adams gets those starting 2G minutes. They're both freakishly talented.

Clingan was a special case. I was pissed off because BCHS kept beating my team by 25, lol.

It’s because Liam was a late addition last year after the season was over. There wasn’t as much time to build hype as there is with Mullins. Plus the overall class next year is one of our best ever and Mullins is the poster child for the overall class.

He always stressed defense which led to offense and we already have an offensive machine in place with assists. Defense is how we went on that 30-0 run.
Not the least concerned about this kid because with those skills and in our system he will be a star.

The last part of this is just not accurate. Are you confusing it with a different circuit? He was in the Adidas 3SSB. Mullins wasn't even the highest ranked guy on the circuit. 4 of the top 10 guys in the 247 composite were in 3SSB.

Darryn Peterson was on Phenom United. Nate Ament's team made it far. Koa Peat and '26 Alijah Arenas (and others) on Compton Magic. Mikel Brown on Team Loaded NC. I was a big fan of '26 Ikenna Alozie. Mullins' teammate Moreno is also a high 4*/borderline 5*.

The last recruit who people were concerned about never having faced real competition worked out pretty well.

Lack of competition in high school but I think the potential is there but will take some time to get adjusted to the speed and athleticism at a high D1 level. From looking at his HS schedule, he has 2 games total vs high level recruits - postseason not included.

Azavier Robinson, a Butler commit, put up 30 on his team and lost. Tre Singleton , a Northwestern commit, is next on his schedule. I think that's about it from the competition standpoint in the regular season.

We've gotten pampered with Liam's ultra quick development at this level and much of it goes back to him practicing against high D1 recruits on a daily basis and games against the best teams in the nation. I want to be wrong but I think Braylon will be a 3 year player perhaps 2.

I really, really do NOT believe Liam can shoot with Braylon. Braylon is a high energy guy, quick, fast, and can shoot the rock bigtime. You think Hannah Hidalgo had abrupt growing pains as a freshman at ND??? Braylon has got the stuff bigtime. Braylon has a strong reputation for defense, haven't you kept up with his press clippings? Laugh if you want, this kid is the reincarnation of Steph.......when I saw Steph at Davidson, I knew right off the bat this kid was surreal. I kinda think he became a pretty decent player, right?
