Only allowed me 10 options. Thought of Nance, also thought of Dickie Simpkins, JC's clone, and GM's Paul Hewitt, Tom Izzo, God Shamgod, etc

Wait...God Shamgod is available? He's my number 2 pick, then. Number 3 would be Orlando Antigua (because it seemed like he played college ball for about 7 years, so he has the experience), and number 4 would be Dennis Leary, because if I can't have our very own Massachusetts crazy Irishman, I'll settle for that other Massachusetts crazy Irishman.

Update: Orlando Antigua is still listed on the Pitt roster; 14th medical redshirt.

What do you mean you don't like the kids he recruits? Do you expect him to bring in top 5 classes at VCU?

Josh Pastner and Scott Drew? Seriously?

I agree - his post made so little sense.

As for the original poll, was it a joke?

it will cement the notion of UConn as a destination job.

I don't think we can underestimate how important this is for the future of our program over the next 20-30 years.

This next hiring decision signals to the rest of the college basketball world what sort of program UConn sees itself as. If we hire some no-name mid-major coach or a weak internal candidate, that screams "we're no longer a relevant national power". If we hire the hottest young coach in the game, that says "we're still in business".

From what I've seen, Brad Stevens has done a great job at Butler. Anyone that can get Butler to the National Championship 2 years in a row has to be a good coach.

Billy Donovan

Donovan makes 50% more than Calhoun now and would certainly want a bump to move to UConn. Not sure that would ever fly in Connecticut's current political environment. Plus he's in the SEC, while UConn is, well in the unraveling Big East.

As some pointed out, Shaka Smart would be a solid addition to that list. I clearly on the fence as to who I would like to take over when JC hang's 'em up. As successful Smart & Stevens has been, I've only seen a handful of their teams and never really took a close look at their whole style of play. Neither really has much of a track record with recruiting with the big boys. They've both done more with less, which was a hallmark of JC's early success, though one could argue that he's still one of the best at finding diamonds-in-the-rough and developing them into very good college players and often gets them into the NBA.

I really like Ollie. He's had some success with recruiting elite talent. He simply has no head coaching experience, so it's impossible to determine what system he would run and how successful he would be. To that point, even the mid-major coaches, it's hard to tell what stuff they might run if they had better talent. For example, JC pressed the h*ll out of their opponents early on, because he simply didn't have the offensive talent he's been getting since the mid to late 80s. Shaka likes to press, but would he do so w/ better talent, and if not, how good an Xs & Os guy would he be running something different than he has been. Note that I've not watched all that close as to what type of stuff he runs on both ends of the floor.

From the little I remember from Stevens, I thought he was pretty good with the half-court offense, and his teams seem to play the hard-nose half-court D that we see at UConn. They didn't look particularly good against UConn in the 2011 NC, partly due to UConn playing their D at a very high level.

What would be a very interesting question...well I would think it would be interesting...if you could have any active coach regardless if the coach could be had, who would you want? I think I might throw that one out there.

If Shaka Smart isn't on the list, it shouldn't be taken seriously...though I'd take Brad Stevens as my 2nd choice. the guy can flat out coach.

I think he's off our list because of the done-nothing-at-Quinnipiac-thing
he has them ranked as one of the best rebounding teams in the country, and they've won the regular season. Granted he's been there for over 5 years, they haven't been a D1 school for that long.

I am leaning towards Satan.I think that he would scare the crap out of the NCAA and would not take their stuff without sending them a clear and well understood message. But I like the underdog, so I am picking Kevin Ollie.
