Who will UConn target in recruiting this summer?

Anyone have any intel on '27 Tyler Newsom from Monroe, CT? His NY Lightning team seems to lose by a lot every game at Peach Jam but he's third in scoring at Peach Jam and fourth in rebounding.

Hurley is watching Cloer, County and Howard. And not Samuels.

Samuels & Howard played against each other. How did Hurley watch Howard and not watch Samuels?
Samuels shot 5-22 with 18pts and 6-8 ft 2 of 8 from 3 BUT 13RB But only 1 asst and 4 TO
Howard only 7 pts 2-10 3-4 FT 0-5 from 3, only 5 rb 0 asst 1 turnover
Games and performances like this might be why were are 'all in' apparently on nobody

I think they're all in on Toure, Mingo, and Cloer. They watch all their games.

A long way off but this kid just led his NY Lightning team to win the Peach Jam. From Waterbury, CT his dad was on the Crosby state champion team back in the day. Looks like he stayed back and will be an 8th grader instead of a freshman, just turned 14.

Disregard the terrible music...

Good question! Lol. Maybe he turned his head away when Samuels’s team was on offense? :)

Samuels with a bounce back game in the later game. 27 (on 19 shots, 3/7 from 3), 11 rebs and 2 assists.

Bryson Howard was insane, though. Completely carried his team to a win down the stretch over Junior County's team with Hurley watching. 37 points, 23 of which came in the last 5 min + OT.

I've heard people talk about him. The kid can definitely play. I always am hesitant to trust the development of the social media darlings who get "ranked" in middle school.

Calll me old fashioned but i Hate Calipari
He's living proof self promotion can work wonders and that you may not be able to fool all the people all the time but you apparently can fool most people enough times each recruiting cycle....

You'll have to ask Pitino that question but this is what he said back in February. There's a long thread about it on here.

But he eventually did sign a high school kid. Of course, he's not exactly someone you'd believe about much of anything.

I have no inside info but I know Mingo's uncle. Work with him. Good dude. It's weird how small the world is
Well, the least you could do for us is to take his uncle out for drinks and dinner and casually ask how the family's doing.........

His biggest "flaw" is being unselfish. He likes seeing his teammates succeed as much or more than himself. That's a great "flaw" at the college level where everyone on your roster was as good as you in high school. That's an easy "flaw" to overcome when you're a freak athlete with head above rim hops.
Maybe he does what he thinks his team needs. Like the 50 or 60 points in some FIBA game last year.

Agreed, it's too much too early but his videos and accomplisments as a 13/14 year old are kind of eye opening. The ones I immediately think of are Jashaun Agosto and Julian Newman but they were shrimps.

This kid looks to be a 6'1 point guard already with seriously advanced handling, shooting, coordination, and athleticism. There's videos of him throwing an off the bounce alley oop to himself, two handed dunks, and a windmill in middle school games. It's kind of crazy.

Declan Griffiths (Gavin Griffiths little brother) has been playing up a year for Middlesex Magic. Kid is going to be a high major, he shoots the cover off the ball.

His deceleration while playing off two feet at that age is crazy. It's hyper-coordinated stuff.

Now the questions are:
  • If he grows, does he keep that decel and balance? Or does he get kind of awkward?
  • If he doesn't grow, will his athleticism (including his decels) still continue to pop as he ages up?
Super interesting prospect though, either way.

Will Pierce Paul be as good as Paul Pierce? Or will he go the way of Allan Ray?

That's always what stands out to me too - the change of pace, the recognition of when to shift gears...that's REALLY high level stuff for his age particularly because he's playing against kids multiple years older than him.

If he was doing those moves against 7th graders, it would still be impressive, but to do it against high level HS kids already, this kid can play.

Obviously, 3-4 years of development or de-development (not a real word) can affect plenty. But he's impressive right now.

Cole Cloer on fire to start the 1st quarter, so naturally his coach takes him out. AAU is painful.

Can't upset the parents. If mommy's angel doesn't get his promised PT, social media will blow up.

My dream is to start an elite 3v3 spring/summer league. I think we'd finally start seeing the skill euros are bringing develop.

Watched last 5 minutes of Q2 and entire 2nd half. Cloer's team gave up a 20 pt lead, (19 at half), and lost the game. He made 2 ft over that period, missed all his shots including a game tying shot with 4 seconds. Was always in the rebounding fray but I don't recall him coming down with any contested rebound. No real success defensively except drawing a late jump ball. Made a number of offensive moves but never achieved any separation to get his shot off. His guards were outplayed significantly. Obviously his and his team's play had to be much better building the lead. He moves well and looks like a player, but seems like I'm a jinx when it comes to kids playing well when I'm watching. Diane & Mingo are championship chasing worthy. Everybody else is hiding it from me.
