Who will UConn target in recruiting this summer?

True but I also think he has the most long term upside of anyone we're involved with. If he comes to UConn there's no way he's not an NBA player.

Not like these were blowouts, they lost 3 of the 5 of these games (only 1 was maybe a blowout). 1, 1, 2, 0, 1 assists, so again not like he was eschewing shots because he was just playing unselfishly and setting up teammates. In those games he got to the FT line 1, 17, 1, 0, 7 times. Feels like watching he could get to the line 7+ times every game.

I wonder if he's nursing something, or if that's just him.

@superjohn Said something similar in a Dm the other day. He was passive and either overtired or hurt.

He wasn't taking a ton of shots in AAU last year either though. His AAU #s really arent bad. 15/5/2 in a much better Adidas circuit this year is nothing to turn your nose up at.

I'm not 100% sure how to pin it. He plays like a #2 or #3 option to me. It looks mental... but also a bit about his court awareness and decision-making still improving. I'd have to watch more games to describe it better.

I hate to agree with Zanetto, but I have seen Toure a few times and do wonder how much of an impact he will have at UConn, especially as a freshman. My suspicion is that if he wasnt a local product, the enthusiasm on this board would be far more muted. That said, you always want quality kids to stay home.

His biggest "flaw" is being unselfish. He likes seeing his teammates succeed as much or more than himself. That's a great "flaw" at the college level where everyone on your roster was as good as you in high school. That's an easy "flaw" to overcome when you're a freak athlete with head above rim hops.

To @auror point, he isn’t blowing up with assists…if he were, it would make your point easier to absorb.

He's not much of a playmaker at this point but he's unselfish in that he's not trying to take over. I don't know if that's on him or his coach. I watched the whole game the other day and I got the sense he hit the wall. Since he won the state championship it's been non-stop AAU and international ball.

He didn't get the ball a lot and when he did he passed it off or handed it off up at the three point line. He only tried to drive the ball twice for almost the whole game and turned it over both times. He only shot two or three times and he was short on all of them but then with his team down late in the game he drove every single time and got fouled every single time, shooting something like 13 ft's.

Zanetto has inside sources, but I would not consider him an insider the way Tipton, Branham, Rothstein, Torres, Finkelstein, etc are. It is not his primary profession, and he often has difficulty discerning the truth when using his inside sources (see: his multiple statements that Tarris would leave this offseason). In fact, he will often express opinions that are not based in reality as if they are an inside scoop (see: his push for us to sign Tyler Betsey, Mgbako, Dent this offseason), which causes us - or at least me - to check out when listening to him.

In this case, it's frustrating because he might actually have some Toure info - it's just too hard to tell from his statements. He is more fan than anything else, but he is able to get current players and professional insiders on his pods - which does give us real info.

What I've gathered is that it is true that UConn is not all in on Toure (yet) the way some on here would like them to be. The way they were on Mullins last summer*. As far as I'm aware they're not "all in" on anyone yet, but that could change over the next 2-3 weeks as they start scheduling visits

It really seems true that we are not 'all in' or were not 'all in' on any of the popular targets, Mingo, Rippey, Toure, Samuels, Diane, and we are in the final 8 with Cloer but I don't get the sense we are laser focused on him like special visits to Reibe & Mullins and our pursuit of Cooper Flagg demonstrated. We are clearly watching guys because the staff is out there, but whenever questions are asked the kids don't generate answers that suggest we have made them a priority. The staff almost always gets the guys they want so this isn't a criticism, it's just my fandom wanting to know who I am routing for. It seems like it is getting late to just get started with new names.
 
Just my general take on how recruiting plays out:

Early on and throughout most of the summer, you can get a general idea of who the staff are looking at based on reports of what players the staff seems to be watching at some of the larger events. But that is only part of the picture, since there is permitted contact between the staff with recruits during certain windows, they are not allowed to report on that, unless that is changed under the new Wild Wild NIL West.

Add to that, although the staff may really like certain players, the interest is not always mutual, and sometimes what the recruit wants or the competition is so stiff that the staff decides to focus more on more attainable and/or better fit recruits.

Now that UCon is winning some of the recruiting battles where there are multiple Blue Bloods going after the same player, they continue to keep their hat in the ring on the ones that have expressed a high interest in the Huskies.

As we get closer to the fall, it becomes a bit more clear which recruits the staff has zeroed in on. At this stage in the summer, in my opinion, it's really a crapshoot as to who are the true recruiting targets.

Although recently, UConn has landed some recruits that were on the radar relatively early, usually the names we hear early on are not the ones that end up committing.

The tea leaves are tough this year.

I think Cloer is a priority and some of the recruiting guys put us in his top 3, but it's a tough 3 with Alabama and Florida (and he's going to IMG in Florida now). He was also awful in the first half of his first Peach Jam game yesterday (though had a much better 2nd half).

Mingo and Howard have had really opaque recruitments. Been really quiet. It could come out tomorrow that we're leading for Mingo, or it could come out that we're not in his top 6, I've had trouble parsing it. Diane is just one of the biggest recruiting wars of the year, so you just can't feel the odds are good. We're not coming off back to back titles anymore.

But for example, Mullins scheduled his UConn visit in May last year (and then rescheduled it in June for August), and we don't know of any visits scheduled for recruits yet and it's mid July. Vague hint that Cloer and UConn have been working on a date, but nothing public yet.

Saw JC and Tom Moore a few times.
It was like 10 bucks to get in back then.

The Howard/Samuels game I'm giving up on after Q1. Unwatchable play. Samuels 0-8 . Howard 1-3, Smith 1-3 From this first quarter you'd never guess there were ranked kids on these teams.
