Does anyone know who is going to replace Braylon Mullins in the starting lineup?

Silas, Solo, Alex, Tarris

Its just nice to not be in panic mode when a star player is injured for a few weeks. We have suitable backup. Also timing makes this less critical.

With that said my answer is our combo player; Jaylin Ross

.-.
Replacement is probably too strong of a word.

I'm thinking this is Hurley's chance to see what Demary, Smith and Ball can look like in a 3 guard lineup. MSU is usually a very good rebounding team so we'll see if they can keep up on the boards with a lineup like that. Not sure I like that chance without Reed also.

Stew definitely made me look bad last year and has been an enigma since he got on campus. Please don’t laugh but I see flashes of Paul Pierce when he is zoned in. I am totally rooting for him to take advantage of this opportunity.
Think about this for a second….Hilton Armstrong was a lottery pick! No reason Stew can’t turn things around.

No one replaces anybody be the best version of you that you can be. Be you.

I’m rooting for Ross to get a chance to figure it out offensively so we can use him seamlessly as our defensive stopper.
Surprised you are not pushing for Paunovic. You seemed to be really high on him based on your previous posts

After watching his intro video and not seeing a single scrimmage highlight I may have underrated how tough it’ll be to crack a lineup with just fall practice.

The biggest thing we’re losing with Mullins is simply someone who can get a bucket. Same problem as last year’s team had as well, and it forced Liam into the Batman role a few times because of it.

To that end the obvious answer is Stewart, and pray it clicks for him and that he brings it on defense and plays within himself on offense. Maybe a Deandre Daniels type jump in confidence? Who knows.

Ross is better defensively but he’s not amazing on that end and the lineup can’t afford a black hole on offense. Know he’s got his backers but just don’t see it in actual games. Don’t foresee Furphy getting more minutes but would love to be wrong there.

Stewart seems like the likely starter but the “replacement” is probably a bump in minutes for him, Ross, and Smith. Just hope Stewart or Ross steps up and takes the role.

My guess is Stewart starts … but Smith will play starter minutes off the bench and Demary will be in the 2/3 rotation more than he would have been.

Stewart starts with more bench minutes from Ross. Hoping Furphy also gets to show something early in the season as well.

Also could see us going small with 3 guards. Malachi at PG, Silas at the 2 and Solo at the 3.
No, I would not do that. Awesome 3 guards, but way too small of a lineup. Do you realize what a matchup problem nightmare that would be if we used that lineup 1-2-3 positions versus the Florida Gators? Even with Tarris Reed and Karaban holding doen the frontcourt at center and PF....we'd be in an uphill battle crashing the boards.

Further clarification. I meant I would not start Malachi at PG, Silas at SG, and Ball at SF. Thats too risky a lineup, especially againt a huge frontline like Florida.

I guess he will now get his chance to be that “stopper” that we haven’t seen yet. I’m rooting for the kid as I said but his nervous offensive ways need to improve and then he will need to stop someone. He seemed better 2nd half vs BC but we need to see a lot more so here’s his chance. I’ll take Stewie to begin this and see how he does first, lots for him to prove as well. Mostly consistency though as he’s shown he can be that guy on occasion. Will be fun to see who steps up.

What’s up Mau, I actually did some film review on Ross’s ability to stop people last year. That part I believe he does fine.

It’s his nervous Purvis offense that he has to fix. Hes worst than Andre on that end. Even though Andre wasn’t scared to fire up a 3. Looking forward to tonight’s exhibition against a quality opponent.

Stewart will start...he will have the most to gain from Mullins being out with Ross and Furphy maybe tied for next to benefit with more minutes than they would otherwise have.

If Stewart can engage fully in his minutes he wins the "who most benefited from this", but Ross if he can show he is our best defender and can shut down a player, then whatever he can do on offense is gravy. Furphy just needs to show he can handle his weight against D1 opposition but for exhibitions, I tend to think teams are 10% less physical due to the injury risk in a does not count game.

Coach's definitely are trying different combination of players and sets to see how they look mainly and are just letting their best players play. Reality starts on 11/3 not tonight.

Now's the time for the five big lineup. If not now, when? Five bigs, crashing, their height, imposing, hands the size of tennis rackets, 35 field goals-all dunks (and one three from Reibe), flying like Pterodactylus, arms and legs and snot flying everywhere. Seize the moment. Go FIVE BIG or go home.

I assume Stewart gets the first crack at it. But it should be by committee including Ross and some 3 guard lineups. It's not like Mullins wasn't going to rotate with those guys anyway. He's not Karaban, he wasn't getting 30 mpg. Situational matchups and in game effectiveness will probably determine minutes. That's true even when he's back.

Mullins would/will get around 30 mpg when he's healthy like our other one and done freshman wings in recent years. He's our most talented player.
