Pretty convenient that the current results against the service academies began in 2000 while current results against Syracuse, UConn & Pitt didn't start until 2005.

Saying that Rutgers is 5-2 since '05 is much more convenient than saying that we are 5-5 against each other since UConn went D-1...

I don't think we have 5 true rivals. Haven't played long enough with a consistent enough schedule to really develop them. Rutgers is obvious. BC would be number 1 if we kept playing them and they stopped sucking. UMass can easily be at that level if they can be a top 50 program by 2020 or 2025 (basically what we have done). Pitt and Cuse are there I guess but that's based more on bad blood from basketball than football. We have history developing with USF. That would be interesting given the huge distance between us.

It's really only Rutgers at this point.

Syracuse would be on the list if they weren't leaving the Big East and Boston College would be on the list if they already weren't in the ACC.

We've played some close games with South Florida, Louisville and Cincy but to say they are our rivals is a stretch at best.

I just gotta say that Rutgers is 5-2 vs UConn since the new iteration of the BE formed in 2005... So NO... on the field results in terms of wins and losses is NOT close... However I must concede that most of the games sans our 2 losses (2007, 2011) were close...

I would say in the near future for football it would be

1. Temple [18-16, started play: 1948]
2. UConn [21-10, started play: 1940]
3. Army [20-18, started play: 1891]
4. Navy [12-11-1, started play: 1891]

Currently it would be:
1. Syracuse [11-30-1, started play: 1914] 5-2 since 2005
2. UConn [21-10, started play: 1940] 5-2 since 2005
3. Pittsburgh [8-21, started play: 1981] 5-2 since 2005
4. Army [20-18, started play: 1891] 7-0 since 2000
5. Navy [12-11-1, started play: 1891] 7-2 since 2000

its about time u off and start your pants about tulane

Example #1 of why I can't stand Rutgirls : Fans with delusions of grandeur, when they have have won absolutely squat. Must really chap your ass that we have won multiple Big East championships in so many fewer years than you guys.

I do hope that if conference realignment results in UConn leaving the NNBE, Rutgers winds up coming with us. For one thing we'll still have hilarious posts by RU fans who leave out the part of the record when UConn was still in the process of upgrading and Rutgers had full scholarships. Because it would be unfair to count that!

Top rivals (based on geography & fan rivalry):

1. BCU (hopefully we'll see games against them again)
2. Rutgers
3. Cuse
4. Temple
5. UMass (could become a good on-the-field rivalry once they get competitive at the FBS level and they're on our schedule)

Top rivals (based on who we actually play consistently):

1. Rutgers
2. Cuse (soon to be replaced by Temple)
3. Pitt (replaced by...?)
4. UofL
5. USF

1. Rutgers
2. Syracuse
3. UMass
4. Yale
5. URI?

I left out BC because we only played them 3 times.

And lost. I don't think you can have a rivalry be so one sided.

It's funny; I know a couple of BC alums that used to think we were basketball rivals, even though we had beaten them 23 times in a row! I think that this particular rivalry has become "institutional" rather than "football-only"...

Not sure if you are a baseball fan or not, but Yankees Red Sox is a pretty good rivalry and pre-2004 that was about as 1-sided as it could get.

0-10-2 - 1908-1909, 1912-1913, 1915, 1927, 2000, 2002-2004

I count ten games there. Would have to figure out how it's 12.

Have mercy on them. The only national championship they have in anything was in 1869.

You'll have to forgive me for only counting post-Great Depression meetings between the schools.

The institutional nature of the rivalry is derived from FB, which is why they are #1. Any announced game would sell-out at either stadium and would fill a good chunk of Gillette if played there. RU is a rival almost by default. The eye of hatred gazes northeast.

There's a lot of truth to that, but I also feel like there is an "NYC angst" between Rutgers and UConn. We battle primarily with those two programs for our recruits (and perhaps Syracuse). That's also another reason why I think they are our top three rivalries. But hatred for sure....lots of hatred...

That's not comparable. As one sided as those games may have been, Boston did win a game or two. I don't know our history with BC prior to FBS for the record.

I would love for Uconn to make a new rival with Alabama. Those games would be so exciting!

1. BC- If the world was coming to an end and you could only play one more game, who's butt would you want to kick just one last time?

2. UMass- We still owe them a few more beatings. Trust me, it won't be long and this will be THE rivalry game once again. The schools are too close to each other for it not to be. Wait till they have a winning season and start bragging about how they play in a pro stadium. A few years from now people will have completely forgotten that there was a 10-15 year break.

3. Rutgers- They were good back in the 1800's and their annoying fans are still gloating about it. How sad is that? We've had some good games with these guys and each year the rivalry seems to be getting more serious. Now that Coach P is here we're going to be stealing more recruits from right under their nose and that's just gonna add more fuel to the fire. That and the fact that for some dumb reason they seem to get picked higher than us ever year in pre-season predictions.

4. Syracuse- It always feels good when we beat those smug communications majors and maybe that's why so many of them that work at ESPN like to slight us every chance they get. I'm sure Coach P will still get them on the schedule. Some day when everyone comes to their senses we'll be in a league together again.

5. Temple- Was going to say Louisville but their main rivalries are Cincy and Kentucky. We're just an afterthought and a rivalry has to go two ways. Temple beat us the last time we played and I'm sure it won't take them long to start giving us a good fight. It won't be long before their bloggers find the Boneyard and start bragging about how they were Div 1 back in the day and had a good team.........once.

If we played them every year and the games meant something it would be:

1) BC
2) SU
3) RU
4) UMass

Don't think there is any other school in the mix unless URI were to move up to FBS (never going to happen)

As it stands now:

1) RU
2) SU

and that's about it.

We have 5??

Rutgers
Cuse
USF

Temple has a very good chance at being the next rivalry based on the close games, and number of recruits from the respective states playing for the other team.

Once we schedule games with the Giants and Patriots, then we go after Alabama. Let's not get a head of ourselves.

Record is irrelevant. Fan hatred is all that matters. BC definitely qualifies.

Based soley on the number of bytes dedicated to them on the Boneyard I would say the top 5 are:

1 BCU
2 Rutgirls
3 BC
4Syralose
5 ESPN

Yes I do know 1 & 3 are the same.

Record has to count for something. We can hate each other all we want but no one is going to believe its a legit rival if BC has won an astounding amount of the times compared to us.
