#2 is that quote came out after the amazing women’s season in 95 where he was being barraged with “ women can win a title, why can’t you”. Stupidity.
You know it wasn't just that quote. It was the attitude he had the entire time he was here.

This is really dumb. Geno has taken more shots at the women's game and the fans than Calhoun ever has.

It's not about occasional "shots", it's about 20 years of behavior. It would have been nice for UConn if he was classier toward the program that built that the new BB facility.

If put on the open market, which team, men's or women's, would command more dollars to broadcast?
Money talks and bullspit walks. The men are vastly more popular.
On what do you base this assertion? The first year the Big East went to Fox, I would check their weekly ratings. That year during the OOC conference portion of the schedule, the third highest rated game was UConn-DePaul women. And there was a huge gap between 3rd and 4th. Nationwide the women are vastly more popular, they would get a much higher contract. Locally, the men are more popular.

It's too bad JC couldn't have been classier towards the women's success. Neither he nor the school benefitted from his churlishness.
Mmm, Tough to dump that on Calhoun alone. It takes two to tango and some people have no problem finding a dance partner.

Geno vs. Calhoun
Geno vs. Pat
Geno vs. Muffet

FWIW, I remember Calhoun on Centerstage being very complementary about Geno and the WBB program.

This "comparison" would be more honest if you put zeroes next to the men from 2015 on.

I think people are confusing popularity with recognition.

Taking nothing away from the women's program the competition level is not as deep as the men's locally or nationally. Therefore you get multiple long winning streaks, four championships in a row, not losing an AAC game etc which brings the headlines so people who say when traveling around the country they hear more about the women's team than the men's is due to the "headline" factor.

Trying to figure out which is more popular is the old apples vs oranges argument.

Each has its own core following and demographic of its fan base and there is nothing wrong with that.

I assume fans who primarily follow the men's team are glad when the women's team is doing well and vice - versa.
