'59 is most unique
80's and 90's is most recognizable so I go with that BUT love that '59 sad Husky

I hate when people use 02-13 and 80s-90s interchangeably. 80s-90s is the classic one you love not the 02-13 one. That one can go die on poop logo mountain with the block C. Both super lame cheesy logos that deserved to die in ‘13.
Block C is best for football

1959 - Drawn or traced by an 8th grader
1960s - Goofy dog face, standing upright with big calves and a gun. It was the 60s.
1970s - Literal... pensive, sort of depressed looking husky, but credit the designer(s) for going in a completely different direction.
1980s and 90s - Again literal, more upbeat, energetic, loyal
2002-13 - Literal with a splash of color. Tongue's too prominent.
2013 - Less literal which is good, angry, but originally thought it was too wolf like, however:

The next iteration should have it nailed. UCONN is tough and determined. We'll beat you with skill and physicality...not the angry thug approach.

I have yet to understand the reasoning behind the logo change and branding to only "UCONN" other than just selling more merch We paid Nike a boatload of money to come up with a cookie cutter logo that has no originality. The irony of Nike's "rebrand" of the logo is I would bet most of the country's fan bases probably associate our old logo with the program moreso than the current one that has been around for almost a decade. I've gotten used to the logo over time, and winning a natty with it helps, but feel like a little bit of tradition was lost when we got the new one.

For 75 years the thing that distinguished the UConn Husky from all the others Washington, Northeastern, Southern Maine, Houston Baptist, Northern Illinois etc) was UConn’s was white. At least until the 1980s they had a requirement that the live mascot, Jonathan, had to be white. But Susie and the fat man decided they preferred that clipart version and here we are. I think the Fatman didn’t think white could be made to look like Michigan on the football helmets.

I’ve always been skeptical about the 70s Husky to tell the truth. I have stuff from the mid 70s and none of it has that logo. Actually I have a few letters from the athletic department from the Mid-70s and they all have the one labeled as 1960s huskie (CT Yankee was the concept I think). Then UConn President Homer Babbidge at the time proposed replacing the tradional academic cap with tricorn hats to better represent American education rather than European at that time too.

The 2000s dog is the same as the 80s-90s dog. It's just more cleaned up.

Don't be dissing on Block C like that!

Let's ask this...which is a better representation of the husky (not the samoyed) which is our actual current mascot?
I'm going with the one many are labeling as "wolf"

I like both the 1980-2012 versions. The blue wolf I associate with the AAC, Kevin Ollie, Bob Diaco and the car wash. We did win a few titles between mbb and wbb, but overall wasn't a great time.
I agree. The current logo is so synonymous with the AAC since we rebranded in the spring of 2013 right before we entered our first season in the AAC. Since we were about to start a new era in all sports, I think that's why administration thought it was the right time to rebrand. Since we are going back to the Big East, I would not mind going back to the logos we had while we were in the Big East.

I remember that was another argument people have been making since we rebranded. The UConn Husky was always the all white husky. People always point out the the 80's through 2013 logo was actually a samoyed, but it was still unique to UConn athletics, and synonymous with our rise to being a Championship program on both the men's and women's side. I like tradition, and Im a firm believer in "If It ain't broke, don't fix it".

80's Jonny is the best, but I voted for the current aggressive husky dog. Should have stayed with traditional white husky, but much better than the soft cartoon.

80's-90's and 02'-13' are great. I'm not hung up on red tongue vice no red tongue but they are definitely the best. It was unique to UConn for branding.

As several others have shown, the current Husky can be mistaken for a dozen other schools and teams.
My thoughts exactly. With the 02'-13' logo, casual rival fans KNEW who they were playing against. While the new logo has grown on me and I ended my boycott of buying gear with the new logo a while back, it doesn't stand out the same way IMO.

You guys really need to learn your school history. 80 years of UConn tradition.

From 1935 until her move to the Blue Wolf Every husky mascot that we have had has been a white husky not a Samoyed. Wow many schools have Huskies as a mascot, the white husky was unique to UConn.

We've gone over this a bunch of times and you're still wrong. The logo we were known for is a Samoyed, the current logo which we are known for and will be more known for nationally as the program returns to prominence/dominance is that of a Husky (Siberian Husky) not a wolf. You clearly have no clue what a wolf or husky looks like.

I think his point was we never adopted the Siberian Husky until the rebrand. Traditionally, the Husky was white and stood us apart for 80 years. There is nothing wrong about that.

But the logo so many long for and associate us with was a Samoyed. Most people have no clue about or have ever seen the actual Jonathan dog which started off as a brown and white dog and was mostly a white dog since with another white and grey Samoyed mix as Jonathan. There has never been all that much consistency with the logo or the actual dog. We rebranded to a Siberian Husky which is the UConn logo and Jonathan going forward, no clue why CL82 keeps doing his dumb blue wolf routine when the logo and dog is clearly a Siberian Husky and not a wolf.

Who says you can't have it all.

No people saw the first Jonathan because he was hit by a car as a puppy, sadly. RIP J1. The move to the all white Husky happened For J2. J14, the current Husky is a Siberian black and white Husky. From a fans perspective, you shouldn’t have to explain anything to them about the history of the logo and why they changed it. “It was a Samoyed,” “it was originally black and white,” they don’t care. There was 2 generations of families that saw a white Husky. They changed... is what it is.

Lol, John don't get all melty on me again. Just click the link. You keep obsessing on the fact that one student in a contest to design the new logo used her Samoyed as a model. That doesn't change the fact that our mascot was a white husky (and not a Samoyed) since 1935. As much as I hate to let you crap up enough thread with this nonsense, maybe the best response is to just post a picture of each Jonathan, in order. Jonathan II was posted above so let me move on to Jonathan III:

I can live the wordmark, but otherwise agree.

Anyone who voted for the 1959 one should be perma-banned

You keep posting pictures of the mascot, which is not what the debate is. The mascot was a white husky, the logo they used is a Samoyed

I outlined everything from the Samoyed logo UConn is most known for to the mostly white mascots from the first brown and white dog and the white and grey Samoyed mixed in. We've done this thread so many times already. We really didn't need another thread from you showing you don't know what a wolf is.

He created a thread about which logo people like best and calls the current logo a wolf when it's clearly a Siberian Husky. When it's brought up the logo previously most associated with UConn is a Samoyed and the current logo is a Siberian Husky he tells people they need to learn about the history of the Jonathan mascot as if everyone doesn't already know it. This guy is a lawyer, lolz.
