Shows how much we need Stef. Stewie not fully ready for prime time! And, Banks going down was huge. Her energy on defense and creating turnovers is big. Morgan and Kiah have to learn to shoot free throws. I thought SJ was way better than a bunch of top twenty teams we've beaten.

It was great to see KML taking it strong to the basket and drawing fouls. She really needs to make this more of a habit.

Whew is right. But glad that we have players that can step up. That is what I love about our Huskies programs, we are not just "one" player. Sure we miss a player when they are down but we know that others are going to step up and get the job done or do their very best, which is all we can ask of them.

Fabulous. I hope people aren't taking her for granted, like they did with Maya.

BTW, Kaleena erased my one tiny complaint about her. She practically lived on the free throw line today.
KML was 6-7 from the foul line and had a game high 10 rebounds!

last years shooting percentages would be a good start
She looks very hesitant. Second guessing whether to take the shot or planning it too far ahead. When she attacks shes beautiful to watch

Stef's presence is clearly stamped after this last game, but KML's desire to win and ability to take control of the game should really be the focal point. When it comes down to it, the final shot of the game is going to go to her. From the look in her eyes yesterday, I doubt well have a repeat of that final ND shot. She's a winner and will do any and everything she can. True Heart of a Husky

(gratuitous Mel Thomas book plug)

The last shot could easily go to Kelly. She made the big plays when we needed them. It was good to see KML demand the ball and have the patience to finish.

as i said in another thread, and especially these big east teams who know us so well, uconn has a target on their backs and these teams get pumped to play them. they bring their best efforts to this game to see if they can topple or at least shake up the many times over champs. credit goes to the coaches of these teams getting them ready, and there is plenty of pre game inspirational bulletin board material, especially this board with all of the crowing that gets posted here.

the important thing to note here is that we gutted out the win, we close the deal and got the job done. it may not have been pretty but it got done. knowing how to win in close games is even more so important than winning easy games

The cup half full......

Last year we had T. Hayes, Banks, and Dolson, but no MoJeff, Stewart, and Tuck, and we lost on our home court. This year we had no Hayes, Dolson, and limited minutes of Banks, the Freshmen saw a lot of playing time, and we won on St. John's home court. It wasn't pretty but I would have to say progress is being made.

Yeah, but we gotta scratch our heads over our predictions. ND and StJ were pretty ridiculous, and I was right there jacking up the virtual points myself. I was just amazed by some of the beautiful plays that StJ made, and we seemingly had no answer. Quick little passes, back and forth, and then "put the ball in the basket; that's why it's called basketball." As I said on another thread, they are very well coached.

St Johns hit everything in first have. S. smith lit them up. Very versatile player but started chucking up out of desperation toward the end of 2nd half (with help from a higher defensive intensity).

If UCONN had "put the ball in the basket" game would have been a 15pt win from what I saw. Stewart's 2 missed lay ups were mostly uncontested. She had her hand above the rim on one of them and still managed to miss. Her finishing needs to be polished but she has the ability to get it done and when she does its very fluid for someone her size.

This game without Stef should quiet the people that harp about her not playing down low
more. We had less assists than SJ and much of that was due to the the absence of the high/low posts
and Stef's passes to the cutters. She is among the best passers on the team

We beat them by 30 in the BET last year.

They are a fairly tough matchup for us, they played hard, we had an off game, and we were missing 2 players.

What I liked was the determination from Kelly and Kaleena. I agree with Geno--Get Kaleena more shots.
