Maybe pointless to talk about, probably, but humor me. This team is so close, imagine the buzz if they got 2 of those wins or even all 3? Next year could be it!

So freakin close to 9-0 going into Duke! But on the right path.

I think about this too. I suspect we all do. We would be making the argument that we were the best team outside the P4. That said, I think you're right, it's pointless to talk about it. It's best to save the what ifs for the postseason and instead focus on beating Duke next game.

I honestly think we would be ranked, people would say we're overrated, Duke would be paying more attention to us than they likely are right now, and we would probably get our doors blown off before landing in...the same bowl game we'll probably land in with those 3 losses.

But, being undefeated and ranked would give the program great momentum, the Rent would be packed -- UConn football would be full speed ahead instead of slowly chugging forward (which is of course much better than where we've been).

A mental mistake cost the Delaware game, Rice was playing better at the end and the defense couldn’t stop Syracuse at the end either. So I think the team should be 7-2. 2 games were lost, the other was a gift.

We would likely get a few points in the rankings, but it would be "others receiving votes." Even at 9-0, we are just not one of the top 40-50 teams in the country.
Agreed, it would be good exposure, but most naysayers would comment on our schedule and say we haven’t beat anyone. A win over Duke gives us more respect than 8-0 against teams outside the Top 60.

Im fine with a loss in OT on the road at an ACC opponet like Cuse, but to lose in OT at Rice and Delaware is brutal. 9-0 or even 8-1 was very very real for this team.

9-0 would be something very special, but as we would be exactly the same team we are now, it would have led to many of us b!tching about a ranking (likely borderline to 25) showing far less respect than we warranted, even though we really would have almost no chance of knocking off a true top 25 team on a neutral surface.

At the moment we are what we are. We need to learn from this and build on this.

It probably is pointless to talk about as UConn's offense is very good and their defense is bad. The defense is bad enough where no lead no matter how big feels safe enough or any 3rd or 4th and long do I feel confident in them stopping the other team from a first down. I think the 6-3 accurately reflects the quality of this team.

With that being said, I do think about what if UConn was 8-1 or 9-0. UConn Football shrank in the key leverage moments where they could close out the games that they lost, and this includes Fagnano and the offense, too. It's a loser's mentality-knowing how to win is not just cliche, it's a real thing. This football program is on a good upward trajectory, but would have accelerated faster if they were 8-1 or 9-0 and the stands would be closer to full. You could see the effect of those 2 losses to Syracuse and Delaware had on fan attendance in the following home game, especially the Ball State game.

I know Mora might have his short comings in terms of game management, but I will always be eternally grateful for him bringing UConn Football out of the abyss of football ineptitude under Diaco and especially Randy Edsall 2.0.

Or as I call it, mental masturbation. I think about UConn being 8-1 or 9-0, but they are 6-3 and that's the cold reality, not bad, but knowing some money was left on the table.

Letting winnable games get away has been a trend for years.

We would be top 25. A 9-0 CUSA or MAC team would be too. It would have meant we beat 2 P4 teams. Sorry to disappoint everyone who wants to complain about the schedule. But that would be significant!

9-0? They'd be too 25 by default. Probably 20.

I haven't complained about the schedule and I'm not revising the level at which we've corrected our errors to turn the three L's into W's. I can point to one specific 4th quarter play in each of the three games where if we acted/reacted as we normally had done this season to date for each game, we would have won in regulation.

I also believe that all other games ending exactly as they had, with those three being regulation wins, we would currently be ranked ~20 with an opportunity to get to ~15 if we stretched it to 10-0. With that, we would still (based on performance level to date) nowhere near a top 20 team no matter how anyone would want to spin it.

Duke will be a good litmus test on our quality. My guess is we go toe to toe but our D hasn’t proven it can hang for 4 quarters without major collapses. If we can manage to play solid D, we might be very happy Saturday night.

I'm not so sure a 9-0 UConn would be ranked. North Texas is 8-1 at Others Receiving Votes. SDSU 7-1 at ORV with a lousy schedule. Navy 7-1 not receiving any votes with a lousy schedule. I'm curious where 9-0 UConn would be because the strength of schedule is so awful.

We’d be ranked. Jim Mora would be on the late night talk shows and Gameday would be at The Rent on Saturday.

And we’d get slaughtered in our bowl game.

I agree. But there is what people think and what is reality. With 9-0 and 2 P4 wins we would unquestionably be ranked. Regardless of our actual status.
