The Big East currently plays their tournament at DePaul's brand new arena. I remember back in the day the Catholics didn't want to go to the Mohegan Casino. Will the tournament be back in Connecticut next year? Hartford?

On the radio coverage, they hinted that the Mohegan Casino was a possibility in the works....stay tuned.

When it was announced over the summer about UConn formally to the Big East, the conference coaches all noted this would be the last year in Chicago. The previous Big East was held at the XL Center and the American has only been held at Mohegan and all the coaches noted more fans would attend in Connecticut. Attendance will more than double and may even triple at either location but my preference is for Mohegan Sun as you have more places to eat and stay.

Also ending will be DePaul's 3 year run of BET Titles...

Is it typical to keep having the tournament in one place? Could they alternate, one year at MSG, one year in Chicago? Seems like the conference is bunched in two areas. While my selfish side says Mohegan Sun or XL, my compassionate side, small though it is, tries to think of the people who live in the area within a few hundred miles of Chicago. I guess the issue is attendance. I will have to look at attendance for yesterday's Big East championship. It may be the women from the other teams would actually rather play in front of 10,000 fans instead of 2,000, even if they are rooting for the other team.

2000 plus at Big East final, 5000 plus at AAC final. 5000 seems low for us, maybe the Covid 19 fear?

I think the league should attempt to do it at MSG next year. There will be so much buzz with UCONN being back and that would be a great showcase for the conference. I doubt it can happen as it would put the Knicks/Rangers on loooooooong road trips because the men's tournament would be played right after.

It should though.

Actually, no, it would not do well. You need to consider the demographics of the WCBB fans. Virtually all of them are older fans who will not want to deal with the hustle and bustle (hassle) of NYC. Be it Hartford or Mohegan Sun, the attendance will improve from what The American was getting and will be a significant improvement over what the Big East was getting in Chicago.

I will post all the conference attendance figures later tonight but for the record-
The Big East drew 2,340 fans last night for the 2 closest teams to Chicago (higher than the average for the past 7 years)
The AAC drew 5,430 fans last night, lower than the average for the past 7 years.

One other factor should help attendance for the BE tournament, if it’s held in the Northeast. Currently, only Temple fans & students are really close enough to drive to CT. As for the NBE, fans from Providence, St Johns, Seton Hall, Villanova and maybe even Georgetown can all pile into their cars and head to Hartford or the Mohegan Sun for the tournament.

I also prefer Hartford over the Mohegan Sun because their are lots of direct flights from Chicago, Cincinnati, DC and elsewhere for fans of DePaul, Xavier, Georgetown, etc. if they choose to fly in for the tournament.

One other thought on where the NBE’s conference tournament will be held. While MSG is not ideal for a WBB tournament, that could all change once Paige arrives. Right now, HS gyms in MN are standing room only for Hopkins games, something unheard of for most HS girls basketball.

Ionescu has clearly pumped up WBB attendance wherever OR plays, and she never had a fraction of the publicity coming out of HS that Paige currently has. If Paige is half the player everyone thinks she is, TV & print media will certainly jump on the Paige bandwagon for the ratings/circulation surge, and the possibility of a packed MSG for WBB is not out of the question.

What I love the most is that ESPN will not be the one that's doing the jumping, it will be Fox, CBS, and SNY. Unlike ESPN, Fox Sports covered every game live on either FS1 or FS2, no ESPN3.

I think that the BIG EAST has finally realized that the best deal for the WCBB Tournament is the Mohegan Sun Arena!
They have seen how well the Mohegan Sun ran the AAC Tournaments.
I feel the reason or one of the reasons the attendance was around 5,000+ was the Coronavirus threat!
The BIG EAST will draw capacity (10,000+) crowds there!

FWIW I think it should be Hartford. I think that's an easier venue for people from Fairfield county to get to and I think attendance will be higher there.

Having said that, I love the Mohegan Sun and all the restaurants and shops and what not. What I DETEST is the smoking that is allowed all over the casino. My parents had a hard time breathing as they would walk through, and the smell was just disgusting.
