OT: Where were you when Tate George hit “the shot”?

Last row of the upper deck in the corner that Burrell threw the in bounds pass from. My grabdmother had Nets season tickets and one of the perks is we got tickets the opportunity to buy tickets to the east regional every year back when it was in the meadowlands most of the time.

With everyone standing up, I couldn’t actually see Tate catch and shoot it, I just saw the ball come down and then go back up and my dad gasped as it was heading in.
Yes, my uncle lived in NJ and his company had season tix to Nets and Devils, so he got tix for my Dad and cousin.

In the third floor lounge of Oneida Hall at Binghamton, being teased mercilessly for UConn’s squandered 18 point lead by two ‘Cuse fans who graduate from Jamesville-DeWitt HS. When Tate hit the shot, one quietly exited the lounge. The other put his head in his hands, knowing that a sleeping giant had awoken. As for me, I ran thru the hall screaming like I never screamed before. Screams of unhinged happiness.

I was at the Easter Vigil mass at St. Pius V Church in the Bronx, and taping the game on my VCR! Prayers were answered that night!!

I was ten years old in my bedroom. I had never heard my father yell with such exuberance before. He was a UConn grad in 1967 and would always tell my bro and me how good Wes B was, but also tell us that UConn always would break his heart. Tate’s shot was like this validation that things would be different. Man, he would have LOVED that 24 team.

In my apartment while at graduate school at Michigan. My roommate was from Connecticut also so we watched it. I think we had an exam the next day because I remember studying earlier in the day and then we both made sure we were back to watch the game. We were bumming that UConn blew that big lead. Then the shot happened.

Champions, a sports bar in the Georgetown section of Washington, DC. The bar exploded with cheers and clapping when it happened. I didn't realize how many UConn fans were in that bar until the shot.

11 years old, in my living room watching with my mom, dad and sister. We won't talk about the next game.
I was ten. We had one tv in a tiny little room. My mom, dad, and I were watching. My mom and I left the room when Clemson took the lead and were processing what happened in the living room. All of a sudden, I heard the loudest scream in my life. My dad might of lost his mind. He was jumping up and down. The whole house was shaking.

I had little league tryouts the next game, thankfully.

Went to a dive bar in Noroton Heights (as unrealistic as a dive bar in Darien may sound) because a friend knew the owner and convinced a few of us to watch the game there.

We saw the game on a mid 1980s internal projection TV that seemed large for the day (maybe 45", maybe a bit smaller) and had less than ideal resolution.

I was exceptionally confident going into the game as we easily handled BU and Cal in the first two rounds, then when we were up in the second half (I believe ~18 points with roughly ten minutes left) I was convinced we were on our way to the national championship game to face UNLV (a similar run to what Seton Hall did the prior year, with hopefully a better result).

As the lead started melting away my confidence sunk lower and lower as it kept reminding me of the BE tournament loss to St John's in Hartford in 1982.

I don't think I've ever jumped higher in my life than I did when Tate's shot went through the basket. I will say however I no longer felt marching through to a title game matchup with UNLV was inevitable.

I was at the Allston Sports Depot in Allston, Mass. We had a table of 10 and the waitress just gave us new beers when the shot happened. I jumped up, knocked over all of the beers, and celebrated with the crowd! Unfortunately, we decided to go back for the Duke game....

Sophomore year at UConn living off campus. Had a bunch of people watching at my apartment. Beer went everywhere.

Anyone remember the video kiosk machine that they put in the entrance level to the library the following year? Had “the shot” video replay on it. Played it everytime I was going in and leaving the library. The library may have been a disaster but at least it had that great kiosk, lol. Ah, the good old days before the internet.

Thought it would be fun to take a walk down memory lane.
Where did you watch the shot?
I had to study for a test but took a break to watch the final minutes. Was in my living room by myself yelling and screaming when it went in.
At my parent’s house in Ridgefield talking on the phone with my brother who graduated from Clemson. The thrill of victory for me and agony of defeat for him. He got payback when Clemson destroyed UConn in football.

And people say lawyers are spoiled. Calling an establishment in Darien a dive bar is the equivalent of my wife telling her sisters she’s going camping, when what she means is we’re staying at a Hilton or Sheraton because the ABA picked that hotel for a convention.

It legitimately was a dive bar. Not sure when it opened, it was gone (and the building demo'd) a couple years after that game.

Walking the streets of Troy NY so I wouldn’t cave in a guys head who was hounding me about the Clemson lead and Connecticut choking. I was 3 seconds away from an assault charge so I walked out. I missed the shot live and saw replays then told the dude to f himself about 60 times. No punches thrown.
@ RPI ?

Yes, I forgot about that, it was awesome!

My folks moved us from Glastonbury to Florida (P&W - we were Pratt brats) in 1985, so we were watching chunks of the game on the local CBS affiliate.

When Burrell was in to make the inbound pass I knew they'd at least get a shot if he landed his toss.

The rest is history.
