No question, this is an instant classic. We are very blessed to be on the winning side for many of these games. It seems that fate puts us into a position for historic outcomes more often than other teams. In our modern era - past '86, I cant think of another team with so much rich history.
That said, last nights game was absolutely incredible and that shot is another memory we will be debating for many years. However, it was an early(ish) season game with both teams lacking refinement that lead to some non-March-like basketball. IMHO, it does not rank in the top five but it's close. Maybe I'm too much of a snob and too spoiled with incredible UConn games. Give that ending from last night to hundreds of other schools and it would be their signature win for decades.

Opening night at Gampel was pretty good: Harry A. Gampel, himself at halftime.

Gorman: "The Connecticut Huskies are in first place in the Big East Conference, and they have a found a home."

If we beat GTown last year that'd be my 1. Best atmosphere I've been a part of.
I forget how many 3s shabazz hit in those OTs because it felt like he hit everything he shot in overtime. I thought my head was going to explode from flipping out every time he nailed one. And then just like that, 1 layup and it was over.

No. 1 Texas has to be in that conversation.
Great game to be sure but I always thought it was a little overrated. They were a lame duck #1 and we weren't as bad as our record said we were that year. Plus the idea of UConn students storming the court under any circumstances has never really jived with me.

I'd rank last night ahead of that one.

Personally my favorite has always been February 2006 against #2 Villanova. Not a crazy finish, but it was the first "big" game I ever attended as a student. They had beaten us earlier that year and I'll never forget how much piss and vinegar was flowing through the veins of the collective student body. UConn wiped the floor with them... I still smile remembering it :)

To put the game in context, we were already having a pretty good, unexpected season (with an impressive win over Cuse already), but we weren't quite convinced yet that we for real (too many years of disappointment and not meeting expectations with Corny, Earl Kelley and Cliff Robinson hovering over us like a cloud), never mind the greater basketball community. Georgetown was undefeated and ranked No. 2, but whoever was No. 1 had lost, so they were poised to be No. 1. They had Mourning and Mutombo, and we didn't have much size, so it looked like a terrible matchup. Between that epic 14-0 start and the fact that it came down to the wire, it was just an off-the-charts game enthusiasm-wise. Probably can never be duplicated, now that we're an established power and winning at home is expected (perhaps had we beaten #1 Kansas after the Moore/King suspensions, it would have compared).

The Civic Center was just as loud during the first half of that Kansas game.

I still get chills today watching clips of those games. That team was special. They were suffocating on defense, almost like they had 8 defenders playing against 5. After 89-90 season, the program never looked back. Thought football had similar seasons in '09 & '10 when they beat ND on road, beat South Carolina in bowl (2009, and beat West Virginia, Pitt and Cincy at home (2010). Alas, along came Paul Pasqua- zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and his no energy approach to the game.
