From the AP writeup of today's game:

"UConn has done this before. The Huskies had to make a run in 2011 to make it into the tournament. They won five games in five days and eventually another six straight for the national championship."

We were ranked top 10 for most of the season and ended up with a 3-seed in the NCAAs. We were firmly in the tournament even if we lost to Depaul on Tuesday. I don't understand why these writers keep lumping our last few seasons together.

Those things they keep trying to lump together are our rings and trophies.

Just enjoy, it's not our job to make others understand.

That AP writer has also been around the UConn program for a while as well, he should know better.

It's laziness.

The 2011 run was remarkable because the team looked like it was dead in the water - they lost seven of their last 11 heading into the Big East tourney.

I guess if UConn had a bad loss in the opening round of the tourney against DePaul, maybe there would have been some cause for nerves.

Seems like it started right after they won it, I heard Wally Szcerbiak mention it either last year or the year before, and an ESPN announcer working one of the midmajor tourney finals on Monday brought it up as well. It should be common sense that you don't go from out of the tournament to a 3 seed with a conf tourney win but oh well.

I could be misremembering but wasn't UCONN ranked 19 going into the Big East tournament in 11?

I posted about this in another thread, some people seem to think we had to win the BET to get into the NCAA's in 2011. Absolutely ridiculous, we were probably a 5/6 seed even without winning a game or winning first round match up. Heard it again on some talk radio down here in Charlotte this week. I believe we were ranked in the top 20 at the beginning of the BET. Our RPI and strength of schedule were outstanding that year with non conference wins vs Mich St, Texas and Kentucky.

Yes, just watched tcf's onions vid and UConn was ranked 19th during the replay of Kemba shot against Pitt.

Laziness or whatever you want to call it that should be held to a higher standard. These AP articles get republished in newspapers, online, etc coast to coast.

Since when did journalists bend the truth to create a story?

Hate the misinformation but it plays well on the national scene. If we weren't so DOOOOMED!!!!! tomorrow UConn would get amazing play out of this. I can live with that.

I thought we lost our top 25 status well before the BETourney with all those losses. I remember that the last 4 games in that run were over ranked opponents

The 11 team didn't lose a single game out of conference. Not one. Unf-cking defeated. They were as firmly planted in the tournament as Boeheim's finger was planted in his nose.

Yes, and several of those games weren't exactly against the Little Sisters of the Poor. We won the Maui tournament, thrashing Kentucky by 20 points in the championship game, and no, we did not play Chaminade. We also beat Tennessee at home and Texas on the road, among other higher profile non-conference opponents. IIRC, that also may have been the season we damn near lost to Jeremy Lin's Harvard team, and he lit us up for something like 32 points.
