I actually like when both Ross and Stew play together. They give solid defense and hustle both on the perimeter and Stew can do it with bigger wings as well

Unfortunately they’ve both lost all offensive firepower recently. Obviously they’re not in to score, but earlier in the year they would at least be a threat and got close to double digit scoring multiple times. Since Providence, it’s more of an unexpected surprise if they score 1 basket

When the team is going through offensive lulls, it gets hard to justify minutes for guys who won’t score. They need to be surrounded by guys who will put up points

Yeah hard to play Stew and Ross at the same time unless for certain end of half situations. They just aren't scoring enough to have them on the floor together. I'm really disappointed in Stews offensive game. It has kind of regressed and definitely not improved from last year even though his defense has. Ross has never really had an offensive game besides some opportune hustle baskets from rebounding and Defense.

Really, you didn't see him block a potential winning shot for Villanova with 23 seconds left. Everyone in the arena saw it.
What he is saying besides that he didn't play well. They aren't discrediting that big block. He did fall for a shot fake earlier and got beat off the dribble badly and was lucky the Villanova player missed an easy shot. I will say he did play good D as well as Stew. They just don't give us much on the offensive side. J Ross missed a wide open corner 3 that Alex passed to him which kind of is the norm for him offensively recently.

I wrote a similar post a few weeks ago and unfortunately he got hurt
He’s the most intense best defender we have. Hes the chemistry piece we need
Mullens off the bench makes sense for us
Silas is a much better defender than him.

Ross and Jaylin unfortunately have no offense, it's why they have no chance of starting this season when we're healthy.

Jaylin will start the likely 2 games Mullins is out.

Thankfully I don't have to make any of these decisions

If they're not injured, 9 people will see the floor, and I like them all

Was that the one that was really off? Between that shot and the 2 free throws he didn't look very confident yesterday. I think the injury and time off impeded his progress because he was starting to come around.

There is no good time for anyone to have an injury, but the injury came at the worst possible time for Ross because like you said he was really coming around. I want Ross to play better and give 5-7 pts a game, although I admit I am might be asking for way too much. This team doesn't have a lot of athleticism or physical mismatches in its favor. Ross provides the athleticism as well as Demary and Reed Jr provides the physical mismatch.

Having said all of that, this season in no way shape or form can be dependent on Ross or Stewart too much. They are complimentary pieces and nothing more. I knew Ross was going to miss the 2 FTs as he made the facial expression that Josh Boone used to make when going to the line.

There was one point where the lineup was Smith, Ross, JStew, Reibe and I think Alex.

One of the more offensively challenged lineups we could possibly throw out there. Can’t have Ross and JStew on the floor at the same time. Limits us way too much offensively.

In all fairness the 3 was in and out. A quality stroke, just unlucky it did not go down. Was very disappointed in the 2 missed free throws. If he makes 1 we win in regulation. In all fairness he is coming back from injury and deserves some grace

Problem with Ross and Stewart is scoring. They both have improved the defense, but they can't play major minutes and not score. If Ball, Karaban and Mullins consistently score outside it probably has less impact. So far that hasn't happened

Seems we play best when Solo or Braylon play at the 2 and the other is off the floor. We rebound and defend better.
Top is 1 of Solo/Braylon and 2 of Stewart/Ross/Karaban.
Bottom is 2 of Solo/Braylon and 1 of Stewart/Ross/Karaban.

Top 200 opponents only.

In the Nova game, we were +6 with Solo+Braylon and +3 with only 1 of them. But for the season, the lineups with only 1 have been better.

He is a good D and Energy guy but never will give us much on the offensive side.

The more minutes he gets, the better he plays. No matter what we have to lengthen our bench.

The kid is a junior at this point - I'm kind of over that he needs to "progress". If he goes out a couple games, I don't think there should be a major lag for him getting back up to speed. He's been in this system 3 years. They practice a ton.

Ross is usually too slow to stay in front of his man and too slow to rebound. His offensive game is limited to the occasional put back dunk or wide open spot up 3. He’ll never be good enough to be a starter. Stewart is better defensively than Ross but about the same on the offensive end. Both need to improve because we are getting absolutely no offense from our bench.

Ross had a phenomenal block yesterday. He also had some awful defensive possessions and did nothing on offense.

He shouldn’t be starting, but he is a hugely important part of the team. When he and/or Stewart come off the bench and contribute anything on offense/don’t turn the ball over/play solid (not even spectacular!) defense this team is really, really tough to beat.

It’s never been a question of whether Ross can make huge, highlight reel worthy plays like the block was yesterday - it’s always been “can he do it consistently?”
