What's the best sporting event/game you ever attended

27 February 1999 Chelsea2–1Liverpool.
1st European football game.. the crowd was insane
 
1992 Game 7 NLCS. Braves beat Pittsburgh in the 9th as Sid Bream slides into home. I was right behind home plate.

Runners up:

1981 Sugar Bowl, UGA beats ND and wins the football NC

2011, South Florida beats ND at South Bend in a much weather delayed football game

That's easy: the 1999 NCAA Championship game-UConn vs Duke. Need I say more.

Honorable mentions:
1999 semifinal game vs Ohio State (UConn's first Final Four game ever since it was their first Final Four in the program's history)
2024 Elite Eight game vs Illinois

Pretty much every Pedro game at Fenway from that era (especially '99) was like a religious experience. It'd be a hard thing to explain to kids today.

But for me, I think it'd be a pair of hockey games: Game 7 of Bruins-Panthers two years ago and then the 4 Nations Faceoff Final this past February.
 
Not counting UConn games, I'd say my first trip to Fenway Park, as a young kid during Jim Rice's remarkable 1978 MVP season (months before the lamentable Bucky Dent playoff game).
According to a site called "Fenway Park Diaries" that recounts that 1978 season:
"Rice rifled a solo shot into the left field screen, accounting for the only Sox run in a 1 to 0 win, while Luis Tiant scattered seven hits, recording his second shutout and third win of the year."
Can you imagine, a pitcher going 9 innings? Complete-game shutouts now are nearly as rare as no-hitters.

I was at a home show at the Civic Center and they announced the score. And yes people there went bonkers also
 
I forgot to add, not a great game as I was not a Yanks fan, but had company seats in 9th row behind Yanks dugout for this bit of fun.

LOL sorry, I just read the headline and not the first original post. Okay non-UConn events. I would say in 1987 going to the Yankees game and seeing Don Mattingly hit one of his record setting 6 grand slams in that season.

2013 ALCS Fenway Park
I was at Game 2, Sox had lost game 1 at Fenway so this was a 'must-win'.
Max Scherzer (won Cy Young that year 21-3 record, 0.97 WHIP was DOMINANT) pitched for Tigers. The Sox were shutout in the game 1 loss and looked even more anemic as Scherzer held them hitless thru 5. They scratched across just 1 run in the 7 innings Scherzer pitched and he looked untouchable. We were THRILLED when he didn't come out for the 8th with the Red Sox trailing 5-1.
The Tigers used 2 relievers as the Sox cobbled together an 8th inning rally, eventually loading the bases. My buddy and I had been pounding beers all game and upon the Tigers calling for their 3rd reliever of the inning we raced to the bathroom knowing we had to move quick not to miss Ortiz's coming at-bat.
We got back and stood at our seats just as the first pitch was delivered to Ortiz - he hit a scorching line drive Grand Slam homer that took the Tigers right fielder over the fence with it and had the iconic Boston cop putting his hands up. TIE GAME!
Non-UConn my favorite single moment at a sporting event, and that unquestionably propelled the Sox to win the ALCS (walk-off win in 9th, Ortiz goes on tear rest of postseason) and eventually World Series.
 
Game 7 2004 ALCS.....that REALLY tucked.

The Lebron-Pierce duel at TD Bank...LeBron was ridiculous. Pierce was tremendous, but he had help.
 
A game that didn't count. As a 12 year old my Dad took me to the Giants vs Jets preseason game in 1969 at the Yale Bowl. We were Giants fans. Their first meeting ever it had all the buzz of the two opposing fanbases as the Jets were Super Bowl winners. There were small bleachers on the field for New Haven cops and they had to come up a number of times. Seeing Namath up close, Tarkenton, the Goodbye Allie sing along, and we were at the tunnel after when Boozer and Snell walked out to get on the bus. Old fashioned serious dudes. Jets destroyed the Giants 37-14. Sherman was fired in mid September.
 
2006 NLCS Game 7 - Mets vs. Cardinals with the Endy Chavez catch and Beltran striking out looking to end the game.
 
2003 ALCS Game 7. Yankees vs Red Sox. Old Yankee Stadium. The Aaron Boone walk off game.

My dad and I were at a lot of Yankee playoff games in the late 90s to mid 2000s, and that game was as loud and crazy as any.

When Jorge Posada hit a 2 rbi flare to center to tie the game in the 8th inning, the stadium was shaking for minutes Pedro was finally pulled and got a nice send off.

I'll never forget Mariano Rivera (who pitched 3 scoreless innings in relief) running to the mound as Boone circled the bases. He was so emotional.
 
Since it can't be a uconn game, it would have to be a Patriots game

I have to leave it at that.
 
I'm from Enfield. Billy Spanswick was from Enfield and pitched for the Red Sox. As a kid my dad took me to a game in Boston.

The game versus Cleveland was tied and the Indians were threatening. With two outs in the inning, they brought in Spanswick. He threw one pitch and the batter hit a one hopper right back to Billy who caught the ball and threw him out. The Sox scored in the bottom of the frame. Spanswick didn't return. But the Sox won and Billy was awarded the win.

After the game, my dad saw Billy's mom and when when Billy came out of the locker room, he signed my program. It was very heady stuff for a grammar schooler.
 
Harvard "beating" Yale 29-29 in 1968 in Cambridge. One of the greatest comebacks ever by the Crimson. One of the biggest choke jobs ever by the Eli's. One of the most exciting 4th quarters ever. Game for the ages.

I saw Yaz’ 3000th. Actually I was there for the 3000. We bought SRO tix. It was a seeing eye grounder past the second baseman. But the moment the ball went past the guy and became a hit, my view was blocked by one of those support beams. So I was there, I was watching, but I still missed it.
 
I can't really think of anything that comes close to UConn games, but I was at the Patriots snowplow game with my uncle. It wasn't the "best" but I'll certainly never forget it.
