What's the best sporting event/game you ever attended

The Carlos Ortiz-Ishmael Laguna fight back in the 60's at Shea Stadium. The ring was on the pitcher's mound. I was a big Ortiz fan. My girlfriend was a gorgeous red headed girl. We were surrounded by Puerto Ricans and they absolutely adored her. They told me that the Irish and Puerto Ricans were great friends, and if there was any trouble with the Panamanians we should stick with them and they'd protect us. A night forever etched in my memory.

Yeah it’s supposed to be a Non-UConn sporting event but that game at ND was great.

I was at the Bloody Sock game also which was good, saw both Kobe and LeBron each scorch the Knicks at MSG back in the day but for me Opening Night at Gampel and the game @ ND are tops for me. Didn’t go to a lot of cool things when I was much younger because my parents weren’t big into sports and we didn’t have the money.
I wish I had gone to the Notre Dame game. I thought about it, but I didn't pull the trigger. That was an amazing game to watch on TV. I can't even imagine what it was like to be there in person.

It's obvious that you've never met my ex-wife.
Or has he?

My first ML baseball game at 9 years old. July 1959 at a packed Yankee Stadium for a Sunday double header with the Cleveland Indians. Yanks lost both games in extra innings (10 and 14 I think). I spent half the time staring at the gargantuan stadium and enormous crowd. Never forget the elevated subway train I was on with my uncle going a bit past the station and watching that stadium open up before my eyes. Surreal. White Sox and Cleveland finished ahead of the Yanks that year. Went to quite a few more after that but the first time was special as a kid.

Got any pics bc “gorgeous” and “red head” is a description that usually doesn’t go together.
LOL. My grandmother lived in the Bronx and when we went to her house on Sunday morning the Irish ladies, gents and kids would all walk by the front of her house on the sidewalk on their way to church a few blocks away. Always dressed to the nines and more than few fit that "gorgeous redhead" category. Of course their were also plenty of lovely black haired blue eyed lasses as well! :)

I got to see a 2nd round NCAA tournament game at the Providence Civic Center, March 1981. We had seats in the upper bowl, front row, right on the center stripe. It was like sitting in the Presidential Box.

It may have been the first time I saw Danny Ainge and he lit up the Bruins for 37 pts in a lopsided win. My clearest memory is of a guy walking around in a Biblical-style robe carrying a sign that said "GO BYU, SMITE UCLA". I can't remember who played in the other game.

Not involving UConn for me it would be Croatia 2 - Germany 1 at Euro 2008. We sang "Deutschland, Deutschland; auf wiedersehen, auf wiedersehen..." for hours after the game. :)

Maybe Ajax at Real Madrid, Bernaneu, 1979....

Or...maybe.. UConn Men Soccer Dec 6, 1980, NCAA Quarterfinal, at Hartwick, sort of icy field, ...tough 1-0 OT loss,..Joey Morrone, last ever game, header off crossbar, 1? min left regulation...Better overall team talent than next season, 1981 men that won NCAA....

or maybe, UConn Women +DT at Duke, Feb 1, 2003...Maybe greatest regular season on-campus game ever women's history, (#1 rated Duke hosting defending 39-0 2002 NCAA champs, then on a 58? game win streak...), at famed Cameron Indoor Stadium, first-ever women's sellout- the Jr High School gym that holds 8,000....had bathtub urinals, probably still does...

In addition to my Aidan/Campolindo post earlier... I must mention. Jason Kidd. Saw him play 70 high-school games in-person, including state title wins for St. Joe's and Jason his junior and senior years. Truly jaw-droppingly amazing, by far the best HS player I ever got to follow.

I do not agree. But you have to deal with some freckles. I dated a few fair skinned red hair Irish gals and they could fill a pair of Levi’s just perfectly. Although I do admit the dark haired blue eyed Irish girls will always be a favorite of mine. One thing for certain red or dark haired and blue eyed they all had tempers to match my Sicilian disposition. Never a dull moment….

All ncaa games 1) Tate George shot 2) Tate George shot 3)Tate George shot …. Honorable mention 1) t j sorrentine from Vermont waving off coach and hitting three from downtown Wooster in OT to beat cuse 2) Eric maynor at the buzzer as vcu beat duke 3) Jonnie Dawkins dunk vs Navy ( obscure but iconic reference to ncaa tournament junkies)

Thanks for the comment re: t j Sorrentine/Vermont bomb that sealed the win over 4 seeded Syracuse. Just wish the camera spent more time watching the cuse fans mourning. Here's the clip than brighten everyone's day.

GREATEST GAME was, of course, the 1999 NCAA championship. I had tears in my eyes at the final buzzer. But since UConn games don't count...

1994 World Cup. I was working for the World Cup Organizing Committee in Washington. Got to see all of the games at RFK...HOWEVER the one that stands out still was Italy and Mexico. Literally one half of the crowd was decked out entirely in blue, the other half was entirely in green. The fans were chanting across the pitch at each other. RFK was famous for the noise and the north stands literally bounced. The hairs were standing up on the back of my neck. I can't ever forget that.

I’ve been to sporting events, but nothing like a perfect game or anything like that. But, probably around 2010, I had a Muay Thai / Judo gym as a client. They put on the best Muay Thai fight cards that can be seen in the city - really looked for interesting matches and a mix of pros and amateurs. This one guy (amateur) was amazing - really should have been pro. He was a NYC fighter named Andy Singh. In the middle of this fight I see him do two ridiculous things - he avoided a punch by doing a back flip. And, I think in the next round, he landed an axe kick. He wasn’t fighting a chump, either! Most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen!

Not the best but a fun one. On a Cubs trip. Old Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta. Braves lead in top of 9th, 5-0, two outs, nobody on. Cubs get walk, single, single 5-1, walk, single, 5-3, Bobby Murcer comes up, homers!!! Cubs lead 6-5. Buckner strikes out. In the bottom of the 9th, Lee Smith strikes out the side. Best comeback I have ever seen.
