What will Texas Tech Do?

I'm less concerned about women's basketball trumping football than I am about the justice system trumping athletics. Let's hope that the university, campus police, and everyone else involved do the right thing and aren't swayed by sports...

I just hope the young lady is okay. Also if the school does not act... they are going to open themselves up to so many lawsuits, it is not even funny.

What about the good ole police?
Isn't assault a crime in Texas?

Why in the world ,do some kids throw their life away doing such stupid things.?....I wonder why.

Don't know how well it applies to this incident, but, the combination of testosterone and pride is highly corrosive and volatile.

A lot of really talented kids have been told from an early age that they're the best thing since sliced bread, then they're told they need to be more aggressive over and over again, until it's a habit. So, combine a bit of arrogance with a motor that's usually in the "on" position for elite athletes and add a dose of youthful lack of judgement and you get stupidity.

Probably got away with it in his home town. I'll give the benefit of the doubt that he never punched out a girl but only had incidents with boys.

Accounts for a lot of things, not just aggressive behavior, but just assumptions of "right-hood". No, you are not always right, you are not always going to win, and your chances of often being right and often winning probably increase once you learn it. Or as an old friend used to quote, "know when to hold em and know when to fold em".

To be fair, I am editing to add that this may or may not have been the specific reason for the behavior in "this" case, but it is a plausible and accurate reasoning in many cases.

There's a strong element of learned violent behavior...not just among athletes...that needs to be unlearned...the fact that he couldn't distinguish between a man and a woman in his response indicates just how far the pendulum has swung...

A fight between two guys probably wouldn't raise any eyebrows...hitting a girl in Texas ain't gonna fly...

The student has been dismissed. He was playing pickup basketball with the girl...probably got schooled and then decided to punch her because she embarrassed him.

Or maybe she was being a jerk. Regardless of the reason, there is no excuse for a man to hit a woman.

Not sure if this is the case but more often than not it comes down to parenting. That or a lack of it. ...Manners and discipline start at home, or should.

This thread is locked for veering into speculation and I apologize for starting the ball rolling downhill.
