Didn't say I would quit. Didn't somebody say earlier "don't ever give up""
Unless, of course, your playing UConn.
Did she give up or calculate chances of winning? Sometimes the fouling works and more times it does not, but like you said it was against UCONN which reduces the chances even further. Here's the thing, Muffett tried to play "the pressure is all on UCONN and notre dame is the underdog" game. It didn't work and maybe it even backfired into making her team think they could not win and maybe she sensed that and went for the "moral victory".

It's the only way that stops the clock. Even if teams hit free throws, you can hit threes to try to make up some ground. Yes, the odds are very slim. But, it stops the clock, it gives you a chance to comeback. If, you have a team with shaky guard play, maybe you trap, not with Mo, Kia, Morgan and Breanna. I was so relieved when ND chose not to foul.

Scoring stops the clock in the last minute.

Stopping the clock isn't actually the important thing, having possession and then scoring are the important things. Fouling is one way to potentially change possession. A really aggressive full court press is another.

They have their pros and cons, obviously. Fouling puts the other team on the line, of course. Aggressive full court defense can give up a long pass and easy lay-up.

With UConn, you're picking your poison.
