Why the need to generalize about any demographic group? It's revealing that those who do this are never a member of the group to whom they refer. It's always "those other people". Aly had no need to suggest that her particular group was sexually inadequate. It's the old "Those XXX's are all alike". Does she realize that her father is an old white man who is part of that "old boys" network that is entrenched in our society? Of course "not my father". Only those other men. Only the ones I don't know.

It's almost a universal trait among humans to classify people into groups and draw conclusions, usually negative ones about them based on whatever particular box they have been placed in .... as long as it's not a box the disparager occupies.
Because there's only one group attempting to marginalize "those other people," much like the Shaughnessys of the world who see women and the sports they play as second class. Shaughnessy probably also believes UConn's WCBB team would be better off perfecting their cooking and cleaning skills rather than their box outs and jump shots. More generally with respect to those other people, who do you think is being targeted by the recent spate of new voter laws, restrictive abortion laws, religious freedom laws, attempts to curtail immigration from certain places, gerrymandering of election districts, and "bathroom laws?" Certainly not old white straight Christian males.

So you can make all these deductions as to what Shaughnessy thinks? Based on what, his middle-aged white male classification? Your comments are no different than those who are trying to "cleanse" the voter rolls of the poor simply because they are poor. After all, if the poor weren't too ignorant to vote they wouldn't be poor.

I'm no fan of Shaughnessy. But for what he says, for his actions, not because of his demographics. Bigotry works in both directions. And when one uses the idiocy of one a**hole to make generalizations about a group that shares his/hers age/gender/sexual orientation/religion/country of origin/etc you only help to perpetuate that way of thinking.

Nan, you started it, but the stereotyping BS is getting pretty thick, don't you think. We know turn around is not fair play, but in PC America some may choke on this bashing turn around.

Is it shameful to apply negative attributes to people about whom you know nothing?
Shaughnessy has Div 1 athlete daughters so he may be more supportive of women in athletics than you or me. He may not be. I don't know him.
Behind every "white straight Christian male" is a white straight Christian female?

"But of course. These are male teams. Female teams are in the sandbox now, and the man. Cannot. Take. It."

I don't like the above statement though. It is too much generalization and it makes me think she's feminist. I think feminists are sexists and I don't like neither.

What does your lack of research and statistics tell you about "old white women"?
"Young women of color"?
How about marsians?
1. I AM an old white woman, so I lack the objectivity to comment.
2. I have had many experiences with young women of color, most of them wonderful.
3. Never met a "marsian." (I think you meant "Martian," but I never met any of those, either.)

Wasn't me.
