Coaches are in a no win situation. Go biserk when a bad calls against you, you're an out of control maniac. Stay calm and not argue, you don't care, you have no passion. I'll take the maniac any day.
Wooden's rolled up program would like a word.

I think approximately 0% of Ncaa coaches "don't care or have no passion". Danny goes to war with his team on game day versus the officials in charge of the game. Kids seem to like that. You don't see him berating our players on game day like a Knight or JC. But I wonder how much the mano y mano with the refs and calling them frigging jokes, actually helps calls. Most refs I knew at college level werent easily intimidated, and many have elephant memories. We play in your face,no help, strong chest man, and that will lead to fouls. And Danny will go to war nightly, for good or bad. Part of the whole 2 time champ package.

This was what happens when you get to a place we’re any failure is not acceptable. He has been holding this in since practice started.

I think the issue with the refs becomes almost him projecting his need to win at all costs.

In the end many people who accomplish great things become their own worst enemy.

I hope that was just him hitting the reset button…..from all the stress staying on the mountain top brings.

In a game on 11/25, it's not big deal to me. Also, for me it would be different if the refs had been great all game and this was one terrible call.
It's not a great look, but the players aren't going to mind unless this happens multiple times in the season or happens in the tournaments that really count.
I think from a player perspective, they are glad to have someone fight for them and has their back, even if it is in an insane manner at times. Most would rather play for that guy than a guy who just looks like he's in pain all the time or shows little interest at all.
Finally, the refs weren't great, but I think to a man, almost everyone in that locker room after the game was replaying a few plays or more where they felt that they themselves could have done better.

The #2 ranking is/was nice to have, but that was really more based on potential. If this team plays D like they did against Memphis, there is no chance at a 3-peat, but let's see where they are in late January/early February.

There were some very questionable calls against us not doubt. However, Coach Hurley should have more self control and know how to temper his emotions considering the score and time.

What’s there to coach when they aren’t fouls?
We’re bias and that’s okay. But we played defense in a way that gave the refs a chance to call a foul. There’s ways to prevent that.

If you have a forearm in somebody or hands down then you are liable to get called for a foul. As UConn fans who’ve watched guys like Kemba, Shabazz, and even Newton we should know this.

Continuing to start Samson Johnson is just as bad as picking up that T. Great Coach, but like any other human he makes mistakes. Love Hurley, but he's not perfect and we shouldn't expect him to be.

I like it better when we’re blowing people out, as he’s more reserved. I’m close games like yesterday, he goes too far. But as long as it doesn’t bother his players, I’m fine with the criticism

The T at the end was totally avoidable. Ref walked away. Kimani had Hurley behind him and seemed like it was over, then Dan went back after the ref. Just can’t happen.

The call was questionable. Definitely contact but McNeeley was just taller than the guy and got the rebound. Not the worst call of the game and you just gotta move on.

The worst call was the combination of the call where Reed turns around and the guy who is a half a foot shorter is crawling into his jersey and it was his fifth foul and a tech. Elbow wasn’t even extended. Literally just turned around and if it wasn’t a guard who got stuck in a terrible mismatch that’s an elbow to the chest and it’s probably an and1. Turn to end of game and Solo gets an elbow swung into his face and it’s a foul on him. Just can’t have two different interpretations of the same rule like that.
Bingo - I was saying this yesterday

I can't believe people are taking the side of the referee over Dan Hurley. You don't get to make a terrible call and then double down on it by T'ing up the coach in the THAT situation. If you let Hurley mouth off all game long, you don't pick that moment to T him up either. Where is the accountability for referees in this sport?

College basketball needs a challenge option because these refs are consistently terrible. Hurley is not even asking for a favorable whistle, he is asking for a FAIR whistle. We don't even get a fair whistle. Does anyone remember last year when Goodman reported that numerous refs told him that they have a personal animus against Dan Hurley? Yeah. And we're supposed to expect them to be unbiased? This is something that borders on match fixing and I cannot believe that it wasn't investigated to find out which refs told Goodman that.

I know there's a lot of talk that he was calmer last year. He hasn't changed. He SEEMED calmer because we had three loses all year. I love Hurley. Wouldn't trade him for any other coach in D-1. But he is a lunatic, and from an outsider he and as a extension UConn is easy to hate. Based on our success we have to lean in and embrace that.
That being said. For Hurley's own health, physical and mental (which the latter has been well documented), he exhausts himself every game with the way he goes after the refs. I can't remember a game UConn has gotten a favorable whistle since he's been here. UConn bias I know but someone please give me a good rebuttal. So he must truly believe in the fact that the way he attacks the refs generates a positive return of amping his team and advocating for his players. Which is fine, but man it's a weird look for back-to-back champs to have someone losing his GD mind over every call, warranted or not.

There were bad calls, especially Memphis elbowing Solo in the face and foul on Solo. Memphis grabbing our cutters and screeners all game. Was never addressed. My criticism of Hurley is the language he uses when he is mad about a call. Calling officials "a clown" will never help us in any way. The official knows everyone around the court as well as the other 2 officials hears this. Dan gets so irate he is not able to give his opinion and then move on and coach our team. I think it then gets the players distracted. He should bring up bad calls but don't be a child about it.

Coach knows what he’s doing. It’s a chess match. He argues about officiating now and the refs are going to think about the calls they’re making for or against us this season. Some will work for and some against.
