There is a large contingent out there that feel DHs antics exhibit a trend that is on a crash course to imploding ala B Knight. It’s the wrong take, but perception can be reality sometimes.
There is not a large contingent , lol , stay off other teams boards. The only ones saying that Hurley is on the road to B Knight are a select few other fan bases!! His players would run through a brick wall for him and do not fear him. Could Hurley tone it done some on the sidelines , prolly, but he’s extremely competitive and passionate. Also, he’s been relatively calm the past couple games with the exception of the Colorado game when Liam got called for the foul on a near identical play as the Memphis game and Kimani had to hold him back .

Ok if we want to blame somebody else other than Hurley I have the answer. This is all the fault of his publicist. He has to have one right. All famous people do.
Yup - someone is getting him every Good Morning America interview and Hurleymentary and it’s not Andrea. Focus on the team, stay cool and minimalist with the media for now. He had more than his fill in the offseason to the point I felt I was hearing the same stuff recycled repeatedly. It’s ok to give other programs some attention. I admittedly enjoyed lots of it and felt good for recruiting, till it felt like overkill and likely saturation to people not UConn fans. Right the team, screw the media, they’re always looking for a story and not your friend.

We all have our own 2 eyes and can watch the games. Anyone who actually watched that Memphis game and thinks “eh, the refs were fine” must not have been watching what I saw, or maybe were hoping for our team to lose. When you work for something as hard as Hurley does and you watch some scrub ref who has a vendetta against you rip it all away you’d probably overreact as well. It wasn’t a one call thing either, go back and re-watch it if you don’t believe me. I re-watched the game this morning and lost track in the mid 20’s for egregious calls against UConn and that was just in regulation.

I don’t think Dan minds the media focusing on him. He’d rather take the heat to protect the team and build an us vs them thing. Got to get some wins now

Not needed we had DC......... ;)

Polite of you to say SOME ?????? ;)
It didn’t even come out during the horrific stretch in January 2023. He’s made a concerted effort to behave better after the 2022 season. I’m hoping Borges or another reporter can ask and get answers to the following questions: What did the trainer say and how loudly did he say it? Did that technical bother Dan and affect his interactions with the officials for the remainder of the Memphis game? I’d suspect getting an answer to the first question would be difficult. The players and coaches have likely closed ranks and aren’t likely to discuss it on or off the record I’d imagine. Dan might well answer the second question if it were posed to him.

I can understand why Dan might want to not answer the questions and keep it "in house." Not saying I know how he feels or I will predict what he might reveal if asked, but seems to me, his focus is or should be, on winning some big upcoming games and tweaking player performance.

You can't change the past, but can learn from it.

If he chose to not answer those or similar questions, I would respect that.

He has turned this into a real snow show.

I decided to check social media. All I can say is WOW.

We are not getting a fair whistle all year.

Comments:

Insufferable brat

Turning into Calipari right it front if our eyes.

Those are the nice ones.

My goodness it’s almost too late to take accountability…..after everything he has said.

I remember JC loved to create that us against the world chip on the shoulder mentality.

Hurley has accomplished that this year. We can hide in the Yard but the world is calling him out and it is not helping our brand. I am not going to go any farther but those if you who understand how quickly public opinion can wreak havoc understand this has to be contained.

It may already be too late to get that accomplished this year. This might take a longer than usual time out…..you know what you do to a toddler when they throw a temper tantrum by flailing on the ground screaming and yelling.

No one liked us anyway. I don’t care if the idiots on social media care about us, I only care that we win. And we just won two in a row. It’s not going to happen every year. Hurly has to dial it back though. He needs to use it as a sample not a shot gun. Yelling about everything gets you nowhere. It becomes irritating. Use it once in a while and it’s effective.

I honestly don't ever remember K rolling around on the floor other than the time he fainted.

We all love Hurley but it's weird trying to justify this stuff. I have no problem with coaches going after the refs, I actually like it but he still has trouble picking his spots and he doesn't seem to chum it up with them and butter them up nearly enough.
If a ref needs to be buttered up to make the right calls, then he really shouldn’t be an official.

And I’m sorry, if a ref’s attitude is that any emotional criticism or expletive (e.g. by the trainer) uttered in his presence warrants a T, then I don’t think he should be in his job either.

Yes, Hurley’s sometimes over the top, including in the Memphis game. But i fault the officials in that game more.

Do they have any opinion on Ryan Day? I mean his players brawled with Michigan players on the field after the game, got pepper sprayed by police, and risked suspensions in the BCS playoffs by doing so. All while Day was caught on camera wondering what was going on and what started it.

I know this was sarcastic, but I think we've all seen his press conferences. I'd be surprised, make that shocked, if Hurley has a publicist. Lol

There is a Director of Men's Basketball Communications. He sits with the team during games. But I think his job is more to put out information/articles that the athletic department releases.

Regarding his MTE comment. I think Dan Hurley is blowing steam. He can always change his mind, he's earned the right. And I think the social media attention is entertaining.

2022 Phil Knight Invitational

UConn rolled
#20 UConn 83 Oregon 59
#20 UConn 82 #18 Alabama 68
#20 UConn 71 Iowa State 53

#1 UNC lost to Iowa State

Villanova went 0-3

The fall to the floor was over the top. Hurley can and should do better. I’ll admit it. Will you admit that K should have been T’d up in the 2004 Final Four for leaping out of his chair and repeatedly yelling Bull$hit at the refs? Will you also admit that Hurley would get a T in that situation? I’ll admit Hurley needs to tighten it up. But you yourself tried to justify a T on a trainer in a huddle. We don’t know what he said. Lmao. Just stop. And also stop trying to posit that that didn’t affect Hurley’s dealings with the refs after that. Completely agree to disagree sir.
Saying a call was BS is not the same as calling a ref out his name, something Hurley repeatedly does.

There’s a difference between attacking a call, something many coaches do, and what Hurley does in consistently attacking a ref personally by calling them clowns, b words, and other things.

Dan is officially the ultimate villain of college basketball. He is by far the most hated coach now lol. Look on social media or sports media and everyone hates his guts.

Wouldn't have it any other way :)
