We don’t need to play ranked teams to make big jumps in the rankings…that’s not how this works. Just win games in the Big East and let everyone above us keep losing and we will keep moving up.I’m hoping for 12. Go into conference play on the 3 seed line Then slowly work our way into the top 8 as other teams lose. Depending on Marquette’s ranking on 2/1 we aren’t going to have the opportunity to make any more big jumps in the rankings
That’s not the definition of a big jump like we had last week and will have again this week. As opposed to jumping up 7 spots based on a win we’d jump a spot or two depending on who loses. And if they don’t lose we ain’t jumping them.We don’t need to play ranked teams to make big jumps in the rankings…that’s not how this works. Agree, we’re 12 on KenPom so hoping the AP ranking matches that. I think overall, voters should now be looking past Maui.12
You only really see big jumps when it’s early in the year and teams are unknown or ranked too high or too low. At this point, you aren’t going to see a lot of teams jumping 8-10 spots because of one big win (unless everyone else ahead of them loses also). This is just how the polls work, it’s not so much how many games you lose, but when you lose them. As an example, we lost our first 3 games of the season which is actually the best time to lose a game. If we win every game from here on out which I don’t expect we will, we will be ranked #1 by the end of the year. That’s not the definition of a big jump like we had last week and will have again this week. We should jump at least Michigan and Clemson. A&M will also move up. Not sure if we'll leapfrog Purdue. Going ahead of Gonzaga is probably too much. I'll say #14.These teams ranked higher than UConn lost and may drop:
#6 Marquette L to Dayton 63-71
#8 Gonzaga L to #18 UConn 71-77
#11 Purdue L to #17 Texas A&M 66-70
#14 Michigan L Arkansas 87-89
#16 Clemson L Memphis 82-87
Other ranked teams with games before the next poll:
#3 Iowa State vs Omaha
#12 Oregon vs Stephen F Austin
7 of the top 11 being SEC is unbelievable. Talks of 12 SEC teams in the tourney and even all 4 one seeds being SEC. The hoops qualify in that league has come along at a level no one could have expected.Cameron Salerno of CBS Sports thinks they'll be #13 tomorrow.
