I just upgraded Direct TV to getting SNY but when I check the guide for the time of Saturday's game it is blank. It shows the pre game show but starting at 4pm it is blank so I don't know what's up with that.

I don't have a lot of faith in online schedule accuracy. I've seen lots of mistakes in Zap2It.com listings over the years.

So did UCONN screw up by giving broadcast control away? There is definitely more publicity/benefit to have games on SNY rather than ESPN 3. Is it time to bail from the AAC already?

They can't get out soon enough.

I checked it about 20 minutes ago and got the same listing. I rechecked 2 minutes ago and the game is listed as being broadcast on SNY.

See the other thread for more info. It is more about the AAC contract and ESPN.

I doubt this was a Uconn decision. More likely a league deal that is now impacting teams that had previous tv arrangements.

I think the attraction of being able to watch anywhere is how things are going. You can watch ESPN3 on tablets and phones. I don't think people are concerned about quality as much with some programing. Just like with music.....nobody buys stereos anymore it's itunes, mp3 players and portability. HD and large screen TVs will always have a place (ie football, maybe soccer, special effect films but the small screen market is making inroads too.

Whoa up now… Not a UConn decision?
Admin just helplessly sat around while access to this product was stolen away?
Don't they have lawyers who can read a contract, understand, perhaps even negotiate our greater interests?

First we wind up in an inferior league and now we are told that our precious tradition of decent streaming, slightly improved upon last season by SNY (albeit inferior customer service) is in jeopardy?

We are required to relinquish hugely important local control just to be "allowed" to participate in this garbage league.

And the university has no culpability in this mess?

That's absurd!

Yes, yes, we all know Woman's BB is not the principal attraction or money maker.

But over the years, the development of a new fan-base (me included) was dependent on a number of marketing techniques; as interest in the team grew, opportunities to follow the team increased.

But now, with a national championship and interest peaking, the university wipes its hands of all responsibility and forces us all into the toilet with much reduced access, remembering that we have been precluded even from streaming the WTIC radio broadcast.

Think of how Notre Dame controlled their precious football rights for decades. Can you imagine them in this position?

It's completely scandalous.

Notre Dame was an independent. UConn could have ranted and raved and complained about how terrible this was...and been outvoted 11-1.

We are now four days away from the first game, and still no word from SNY as to how to sign up for their streaming service. Does anyone else find this stupid? Makes you wonder if they really want to provide this service. If they don't, they simply have to make it impossible to sign up and the service will die for lack of support.

There's just no excuse for not at least explaining what is causing the delay and when we might be able to sign up, assuming they are going to keep their promise and offer the service again this year.

Why not take control and use cable or satellite to watch?

Got the same info via email from SNY--very disappointed that Saturday's Hartford game is not listed on the ESPN3 schedule. Glad to see the Stanford game shows up on ESPN2, however. Oy vey!

Can my friends here please help me understand?:
If I have Directv and if I buy the sports pkg that includes SNY, can I watch the games at my home outside of the regional footprint (New Orleans) as well as at the one within the footprint in CT?

I will knuckle under today and add the Sports PAK to me Direct TV for $12.89( 2 Starbucks or 8 ordinary human coffees). This includes SNY HD. Hopefully all goes well and I can help detail the game thread for those of us without access.

Just added the package and enjoying a nice fruit and veggie smoothie infomercial. If I had known these were on here I would have signed up long ago!

Here is the response I received from SNY:

Dear UConnHuskies.TV Subscriber,

Thank you for being a subscriber to SNY’s UConn Women’s Basketball online streaming package last season. All of us are looking forward to another exciting season for the Huskies as they pursue UConn’s ninth national championship.

We want to inform you of changes related to the televised games and the streaming service for the coming season and going forward. Through the American Athletic Conference’s new television agreement, individual schools no longer control their own local women’s basketball broadcast rights. The TV rights for all schools in The American have been acquired by ESPN, in a rights arrangement similar to that of many conferences across the country.

However, through a deal with ESPN, SNY is proud to continue as the “TV Home of the Huskies” and will be broadcasting 17 regular season games, along with other programs including pre-and-post-game shows, Geno Auriemma coach’s shows and our highly-acclaimed Huskies All-Access Special. All of this programming will be televised throughout SNY’s regional “footprint” of Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and northeast Pennsylvania and also on various other national services that carry SNY such as
DIRECTV, Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-Verse. Go to www.sny.tv for more details on SNY’s comprehensive coverage of UConn Women’s Basketball.

Outside SNY’s “footprint”, these 17 games will now be streamed on ESPN3, an ESPN digital network. ESPN3 is available at no extra charge for those who have a high-speed internet connection or video subscription from an affiliated ESPN service provider that supports ESPN3 content. ESPN3 can be viewed on home computers, smartphones, and tablets. Go to www.WatchESPN.com for more information.

However, within SNY’s “footprint”, UConn games will not be available online in order to protect the exclusivity of SNY’s television broadcasts.

We apologize for the late notice of this message and any inconvenience this may cause, as we have been working diligently through the changes to explore every possibility for our fans and customers.

SNY and UConn are proud to continue our partnership by delivering UConn women’s basketball at the championship level it deserves.

The only positive I can see in this is that WCBB is considered the big leagues now in the AAC as I believe this is the only conference that has included WCBB in its league wide broadcast rights agreement. And the ONLY reason that happened and ESPN wanted it is because the AAC is home to Uconn.
Otherwise this really s__ks.
I am lucky because I do get SNY on my cable service and have ESPN3 access as well but I am really sorry for the fans that do not - ESPN3 unlike other streaming services does not permit you to buy the service stand alone as I understand it so it is a real mess and those within the SNY footprint don't even get the 'free' service as it will be blacked out.
The other concern is that SNY has to negotiate with ESPN each year - they end up producing the broadcast which ESPN gets to stream and they have to agree on the fees. This is a very different deal to what they signed up for with WCBB and I imagine they and a whole bunch of lawyers are reviewing the original contract and it could well be nullified or renegotiated at a lower price. And I wonder if Uconn is having to share some of their fees with the new conference thus reducing their operating budget?
I don't blame Uconn as rights fees for WCBB can't have been high on the list of concerns in forming the new league and would only have affected Uconn - one would like to have at least written in a grandfather clause for current contracts, but ...
I agree - please, please find us a new league - heck - I'd be OK with joining the Pac10 at this point!

Rumor has it that if UCONN FB gets it's act together the ACC will reevaluate and take UCONN in! But the ACC has the same type of Conference deal with TV, not individual coverages, like CPTV or SNY! Conference rules!

But for WCBB? I know it is out there for MBB and FB but didn't think so for WCBB and the non-revenue sports?

Almost certainly. Because the appeal to get them on TV probably isn't there, otherwise. How many schools can leverage a deal for production and broadcast of WBB or an "Olympic" sport?

You should be able to watch the games fine in the Big Easy.

Well - we know for certain the Big East didn't have that deal and I thought that was pretty standard for conferences - brave new world may have changed that.

I use Cox Cable in CT and Direct TV in The Berkshires to watch SNY...what a joy to be able to watch the games. Money well spent as I see it.
