We could have easily won 8 or 9 games.

What if next year when Rutgers snaps the ball over the QBs head, it doesn't bounce right back to him and he is able to complete a 20-yard pass? What if next year, he reaches and falls and a UConn player takes it for six? What if karma conspires to turn tipped passes into UConn interceptions? What if the ball bounces our way?

Our QB should be better, our OL should be better, our WRs should be better, our TEs should be worse, our RBs, who knows, on the whole our offense should be better.

Our DEs should be worse, Our DTs should be better, our LBs could be better with lots of talent competing, our CBs should be worse but our safeties should be better.

What if P wins 9 games? It could happen.

GDL is gone, does it matter. I don't think that we could do worse with a new OC. With the right staff in place there is light at the end of the tunnel

We celebrate and hopefully have a great recruiting year, or maybe P gets hired by Maryland.

It can happen. Edsall got off to a bad start here, we just didn't have the Boneyard or a D1 profile back then. P's first two years have been very disappointing but they have not been Greg Robinson or Rich Kotite bad. There have been some good wins and the talent at QB has improved. Much of the Gloom and Doom has been because of DeLeone but if he is gone there is hope.

I think a better question is what happens if we win six. Five he is gone, Seven against a tough schedule and he stays, Six will be interesting.

I have been thinking about this a lot lately. That end of the year meeting (Year End Review)Warde had with PP obviously wasn't just an encounter between the two where Warde told him that he's coming back but only by the skin of his teeth. PP is under contract for 3 more seasons. There is no way PP left that meeting without a clear understanding between the two of them of what realistic expectations would be for Year 3 and should he meet those, then be assured of coming back for Year 4. I can't imagine him winning 7 games next year with what we have seen the past two but I also can't imagine that expectations were set much higher than that.

I'd say then a lot of people would be eating crow about how we should've fired P after two years. But I won't hold my breath waiting for people on the Internet to admit they were wrong.

I would love to know the criteria for success. Of course, we don't even know who UConn is playing next year, so it's hard to predict the won/loss record. But...they are definitely playing MD and MI...and at this point, I would say both of those games are losses.

14-0. ;)

By the way, I think that the team is going to surprise some people with how well they play next year, and I'm not kidding about that statement...

Don't worry, it won't happen. What kind of quality coaches want to move here and coach for a dead man walking?

Pasqualoni could probably not even replace GDL, and we would still improve upon the 112th offensive ranking that achieved.

Heck, if he just gave up running the Wildcat every time Whitmer made a big play, we would have moved up ten spots.

I've stated this in another thread. Next year is going to be great. QB improvements alone will likely get us two more wins. Now if we flop, P is gone. Sounds like a can't lose for UConn fans to me.

Tough to win with a new DC and a new OC coming in. Defense is a question mark. I hope Foley gets OL position back and we bring back the power blocking.

Losing Griffin, Delahunt, Masters, and to some degree Williams on offense and special teams, will affect our offense. I think Bennet comes back if he can get the medical waiver.

Lots of question marks but at least the hope is back.

Not top quality coordinators who are proven commodities, sure. But there are a lot of coaches out there trying to move up the ladder, I'm thinking a position coach at a major school, or someone in the mold of Joe Moorehead 2.0. Even if there's a perception it's a probably one year gig, I think you can sell it as a challenge to someone with a decent sized ego... you want to improve your resume? Turn around the UConn offense and put that on your resume.

I don't think someone of Moorhead's caliber would leave even a secure MAC job to come here. A record number of MAC schools made bowls this year, and the odds are decent that P is gone after next season, and there is no way he gets beyond his original contract period. This is a dead end situation.

With our schedule next year, it will be a big step forward if we make it to a Bowl game. If PP manages to go 6-6 or better, he'll be back for a 4th year. As long as the team shows progress from year to year, I have no issues keeping PP. Hopefully, he'll also bring in an OC or DC that could potentially be our next coach.

I fit happens I'm thrilled. Personally I don't care who the coach is, who the coordinators are or any of that stuff. I just want to see the Huskies get back to winning football games. going to bowls and winning championships.

I understand people have families, etc. But if a guy would rather stay a QB coach at MAC school (JM's was previously QB coach at Akron, right?) than put his name on the line for a year with the aspiration of turning things around, he's not much of a risk taker and he might not be motivated enough anyway. I think you come here, knowing you have to get the ship turned around and get 7 wins or more so it buys you another year to get to 9-10 wins. Coaches have egos, they don't take the job assuming failure, if they're confident they'll think "it's doable". Or at least, they will think about taking a chance even if it's a bit of a gamble. I know that realistically, not many "experts" will pick UConn for more than a handful of wins next year, I'm just hoping for someone with potential who's willing to take a chance. If it doesn't work out, he can get another job as OC at a lower level.

Imagine if PP becomes a temporary Kevin Ollie for us. "Dream job" scenario. Of course, that would require hiring the right coordinators. But still, that would be nuts.

What makes you believe that if UCONN won8 or 9 wins this past season that should be attributed to HCPP?
Please tell me one instance in 2 seasons where this man's strategy or in game decisions won us a game?
I will wait a long time for that answer.
Should UCONN win 7, 8, or dare I say, more games next season I suggest that this success will have very little to do with HCPP.

If we win 9 next year, with that schedule and 7 home games I'll be ecstatic. I'll be happy if he comes back the next year. But we won't because he sucks.

A tale of emotions:

0-12, call for his head
1-11, call for his head
2-10, call for his head
3-9, call for his head
4-8, call for his head
5-7, call for his head
6-6, no call for his head, but get rid of him
7-5, hey we made it, a long search but a decision will have to come
8-4, ok your really proving your worth it, another long search, but you might have to convince us
9-3, hmm could it be you just needed sometime? I'll give you one more chance...
10-2, one more chance
11-1, one more chance
12-0, one more chance and a bonus

Win in a bowl game?: I'll give you another chance and a bonus, but after that you have to prove your worth it, if you fail to live up to expectations, your done

Loss in a bowl game?: Pack your bags, yourrrrrrrrrr OUT!

First of all, I love the part where you say "no call for his head, but get rid of him."
Secondly, if PP goes 11-1 or better, not only will he get one more chance, but he will likely get a contract extension! (and the only way he gets to 14-0 is if the Giants help us out soon...wink, wink....)

0-12 - By week ten, I've lit myself on fire like a Vietnamese munk outside of Burton.
1-11 - Like Martin Luther, I nail a list of moving companies to P's front door.
2-10 - I get arrested for stalking Dez Connor after he refuses to write that P should be fired.
3-9 - Warde Manuel's lawyer sends me a certified letter asking me to stop emailing him about P.
4-8 - I drunk-dial Randy Edsall to tell him that I miss him.
5-7 - I find myself telling horrified strangers in the grocery store that I really like P as a person, but that he is a mongoloid on the sidelines.
6-6 - I lead the witch hunt against the three people we've ID'd as P Apologistas.
7-5 - I lead the witch hunt against the five people we've ID'd as P Apologistas.
8-4 - Conflicted by a strong record and my complete belief that P is the wrong man, a blood vessel in my brain gives out.
9-3 - I become one of the nine P Apologistas.
10-2 - Jim Delaney has me removed from his living room where I only wanted to show him the Big East standings.
11-1 - I legally change my daughter's name to P.
12-0 - I invite HFD to my house for Christmas and don't bury him in the back yard.

Is this the moment when people start drinking their own kool-aid and start thinking that we're going to be good next year? I figured that would happen around Spring practices but everything seems accelerated this year.

I don't think 'm a doomsdayer but if our schedule looks anything like it is supposed to right now, I struggle to find where our team, with the coaching staff that we currently have in place (i.e. GDL as OC / OL coach and no Don Brown) would be able to win much more than three games (I'm looking at you Towson, Buffalo and Big East home game to be named later).

This past year, if our defense had gotten some more fortunate bounces? Absolutely - we could have won a few more games than we did. If we get all the good bounces next year? I think we win 5 games.
