This is a great team with the best staff in the country and a few AA's.

No one has given a good explanation of our January troubles (even though we've won)

I am a big believer in psychic/non-visible factors and I believe there is something about the weird month of January (no school, holiday hangover, weird astrological stuff, lax student sections) is the only explanation that makes sense to me.

I predict a predictable dominant February-April.

(I know I'll get flak from hippie haters but I believe this crap)

Hey we have seen this January funk hit many of our teams only to see them play out later. Next week cannot happen soon enough!

You might be onto something there if every other team didn’t have to play in January also. Or are these maladies you cite limited just to Storrs, CT??

.-.
I'm holding out that this is part of the master plan, with some hesitation.

Here’s what I would say…..we looked awful in January during the first Dan Hurley title and mowed that tournament down like we were mad at it. We were actually bad last January and were one stop away from ending Florida’s title run. I think Dan Hurley teams come together late.

We simply need to get healthy.

That part I do believe in. It's simply whether the sum of these parts has that kind of upside. At times, it looks a lot like last year plus Silas. I believe in the plan and what he can draw up, I'm just not so sure the ingredients in this recipe are enough. Silas/Mullins becoming alphas needs to happen soon.

Oddly, our offensive efficiency last year with Samson and his lobs was a lot better than what we see this year.

Those easy buckets from the lobs would be nice to get now, but seems like neither center is able to jump high enough. Samson was good for that. Also remember Clingan and Brinah doing that very well.

I think our recent tournament “over performance” vs regular season is a combination of a few things: the team coming together late, being free of the Big East refs, and non-conference teams lack of familiarity with our offense.

Even if it was 2-3/game, they were energizing and kept the defense honest. Neither of our 5s really do the vertical thing.

I think if our offense gets better in tune we will be winning by twenty.

Our defense is already really well rated, I think it's between 4th and 6th best. Sometimes it doesn't pass the eye test, yet sometimes we get stops multiple times in a row.

Our offense then has to execute better or simply get better results. If we out shoot them with good defense that means we get more offensive possessions and shots, we just need to make 10% more and get 10% better at the charity stripe.

I feel like the only game we were actually in real danger of losing was PC at AMP. In retrospect, I've been overall confident in their ability to win...
But theyve been a tough watch..... and saturday is still January ...

Finally agree with you on something…..world is ending tomorrow

We will develop fine, January is not a month that makes your season.

Only thing I worry about is clutch free throw shooting.

Problem: in a slump you lose - we’ve been winning.

With all the solar magnetic storms and the whole northern lights being everywhere thing, its an abnormal year. My fear is that this stuff has delayed our January slump to February. Not sure if we’ll have enough time to recover.

Agree.

With the way Hurley works his teams, it seems like losing a little steam mid-season is natural. The 2022-23 season is obviously an extreme example starting 14-0, then going 2-6 in January, and then 15-2 the rest of the way.

Let’s get past Creighton and on to February, please!

But, as we've seen in years past, how well you trudge through January, has a direct affect on March seeding.
