saw a real lot of hs basketball from 60s -90s
not much after that
feel fortunate to have seen so many great players
and games in what was a great time for hs basketball before the prep schools took most
of the good players and yes i did see Dave Hicks
play when i was 9 years old lol
unfortunately injuries legal issues bad decisions
prevented many of these players from getting to the league
Saw Dave Hicks play Hillhouse twice at the Arena great experience many great players on the court those nights but he was in another basketball universe.

the cross / hiilhouse games were a very big deal
channel 8 broadcast them live
in another era Hicks would have been a long time nba player but opportunities for black players at that time were limited
he did go from hs to playing for the harlem globetrotters for a few years

Kenny Anderson.
Saw him play 4 or 5 times when he was at Molloy.
He could get anywhere he wanted on the floor and nobody could stay in front of him.
He was maybe 150lbs but dominated games.
I will add that I saw Rodrick Rhodes at St Anthony’s a handful of times and thought he was going to be an NBA star. Turns out, he couldn’t shoot.

Ive been going to the Hoophall Classic in Springfield most years on MLK Weekend.
So, anyone who goes can watch many future NBA players.

I'd have to say Michael Porter Jr was very impressive.

I watched Schea Cotton at TMore and thought he was the best player I’d ever seen. The “Manchild” nickname was legit.

Bobby Moore from MCI/Hillhouse was next level good: thought he was the next AI. Oops.
Bobby Moore did the most impressive thing I have ever seen in an all-star game. He threw it around the defender off the glass to himself and dunked it. It was crazy especially considering he was like 5'8.

I'm a bit young for this era but love the Molloy representation!! CHSAA has been getting good recently

Rudy Gay - Spaudling HS.

A little bit of a cheat as he had already committed to UConn ... but I did have to put up with a lot of UMD fans who were bitter about that who recruitment

Calvin Murphy vs Danbury HS. The Hatters were thrilled to hold him to 38 points!

Dean "The Dream" Memminger playing in what must have been an AAU game at the War Memorial gym in Danbury.

Charles Smith when he played for Harding.
Yup. Me too.
Before him, Luckett, Frank Oleynick, Wes Matthews .... Not exactly great results.
Bagley had a bit of a run.
Phil Nastu (Bassick and University of Bridgeport basketball) pitched for the SF Giants. Random

Old school MBIAC

Mickey Heard (Cross) was a beast. Only 6 feet 5 inches.
Alex Scott and Clint Davis was a nice backcourt duo.

I saw a double header with St. Bernard featuring Harold Pressley followed by the Celtics at The Hartford Civic Center years ago. Pressley impressed me and he did go on to play on the 1985 NC team at Villanova and in the NBA for a few years. I also remember Rocket Rod Foster of St. Thomas Aquinas before he went to UCLA. Unbelievably quick.

Seems many of you ,like me, saw a lot of great HS basketball at old New Haven Arena and New Haven Coliseum.
Cross and Hill House at Payne Whitney was electric.
Channel 8 and Dick Galliete also brought game into our living rooms. Back in the glory years,a guy named John Gentile published "Connecticut High School Basketball" once a week. . A great read.

Kinda cheating, but the McD's AA game was at Springfield. Chris Webber and Glenn Robinson were just better than everyone else on the court and it wasn't too hard to predict they'd be going on to the NBA.
Donyell Marshall was in that game and did not impress, probably because it was one of those run and gun games. Same thing with Richard Hamilton a few years later. We were wondering if they would be good at UConn.........

Calvin Murphy, Earl Kelley and Rashamel Jones in state high school playoffs and Donyell Marshall in the McD's game in Springfield before he committed to UConn. Earl was an enigma. Made shots at big moments but seemed blase' about the first quarter or first half. Too bad for him and us fans!

Walt Luckett, Mike Gminski (I used to play against his dad in local adult/rec )

Tony Hanson
Jim Ambromitis

I grew up in Waterbury. As a kid, I didn't think about the NBA, but I knew they were good

I never saw him play, but I lived right behind Lower Merion High School from 1993-96. All anyone in town talked about was Kobe Bryant.
