What do you think it will take to beat SC

I was taught that to win big games your best players have to look like your best players and that will hold true in this matchup. That being said I don’t think UConn can win this game with their other 3 starters scoring a total of 4 points as they did versus ND even if Blanca scores her average. Someone other than the big 3 is going to have to step and contribute on offense to win the next two games. Ace in the hole is that UConn’s defense is perfectly capable of making the other 3 teams play badly. JMO

Any size advantage for South Carolina is likely negated by Sarah Strong being so good defensively. I think South Carolina goes with a smaller lineup similar to what we saw them do against TCU. I think for UCONN they should make Raven Johnson/Joyce Edwards beat them with perimeter jumpers and they focus on slowing down Tessa Johnson/Makeer/Latson.

On the flip side, Fudd needs to have a big night or at least a hot stretch. Quinonez is another X factor. If these 2 plus Shade outscore the three wings for SC, I don't think it'll be particularly close. Sarah Strong will be Sarah Strong, I don't expect a lot of production offensively from Shade/Arnold, anything scoring wise from them is gravy for the Huskies. I don't see El Alfy/Williams getting a lot of minutes unless SC is dominating inside (which I think is unlikely) and I see limited minutes for Ziebell/Heckel.
Heckel will get plenty of minutes. KK expends a ton of energy when she is playing well and needs the breaks. If Ziebell is aggressive, she will get minutes since Shade has gone cold. Thus far, she has not been aggressive.

Coaches did some things like Geno hiding KK in the corner so Hanna would be near the ball. Very thoughtful by the Master. What will coaches do in this game to stop the other. 1. Will Jana play more since we will be going against a bigger team? 2. Will Blanca play more. If she does I think Dawn will counter with Maker to guard her since she has the size and quickness to slow her down. 3. Will Geno go for more offense with Kayliegh at the point more or play her at the 3 if Ash is not shooting well. 4. Will we go big with Sarah, Serah and Jana to offset SC size. I think Dawn is the 2nd best coach in WBB and it will be a chess match and my biggest expectation will be if Jana can repeat her Hildalgo like crossover that leaves SC bigs in the Dust. What do you think? .
I think if we start Blanca and Kayleigh in place of kk and Ashlynn we have more offensive potential. KK and Ashlynn give us a defensive lift off the bench midway first quarter.

Going to have to make shots and it doesn't matter who makes them. 45% from the field is probably the line between winning and losing.

Did below that the last 2 games and won, but UNC and ND are not South Carolina.

In order to beat Connecticut, you're going to have to shoot very near their percentage (probably from all three spots), have a substantial rebounding advantage, and limit turnovers. Not impossible, but each one of those is difficult against the best passing, shooting, and defending team in D1.

My intuition, unsupported by any convincing evidence, is that the margin of victory in this game will be greater than 10 points -- either by UConn or SC. I do not think it will come down to the last possession. Basically, somebody's game plan will work, and somebody's won't.

UConn will win by more than 10 points if:
  • UConn makes at least 10 3's on no more than 25 3-point attempts; OR
  • UConn gets 20 or more SC turnovers; OR
  • SC shoots less than 35% without getting significantly more shot attempts than UConn; OR
  • SC gets fewer than 10 second-chance points and UConn gets more than 10 transition points.
SC will win by more than 10 points if:
  • UConn can't tame the inside game of Edwards and Okot, and they score 25 or more paint points; OR
  • SC has no more turnovers than UConn, but gets more shot attempts because of offensive rebounds; OR
  • UConn's 3-point shooting is VERY cold for the entire game (e.g., 4-for-20 as it was against North Carolina); OR
  • UConn shoots poorly overall (less than maybe 42% overall shooting percentage) and South Carolina shoots approximately the same (or better).
I'm not sure which of these scenarios will actually happen, but I'm pretty sure one of them will happen, and will decisively determine the game's outcome.

Allie needs to hit threes to force SC to guard her.---she will be ignored if she strikes out

All great points. For me it is simple. Ash needs to contribute something on offense this weekend and Azzi needs to play like she has been the last month excluding last weekend. As far as Jana goes I think she will not see the court too much and never with Sereh also in the lineup unless UConn has serious foul trouble. I don't think SC has the horses to stay in this game and I don't think they have the quickness at guard to offset the pressure UConn will apply.

But really it comes down to how your big guns perform. If UConn gets good play from their stars then they win handily, if they play like they did last week it will be a barn burner for sure. SC will play consistent but not to the level UConn can play and unlike you I think Dawn is a great recruiter and just a good coach, not great. It will be fun for sure.

Geno said that if UConn plays its "A" game, they will win it all. I believe in Geno. UConn will have to play its very best.
This is my take, as well. We have to play 40 minutes of prime, UCONN BB. As we did in the first half against Syracuse. And we hav to do so two games in a row.

Need to keep them in the 60's, and generate +10 turnovers margin resulting in 12-15 points differential on TO's. Limit their offensive rebounds, and run, run, run.
If it gets into a scoring back and forth, that would be trouble. Can still win, but that is not the model.
