Interested to hear from people who attend all the games. I attended pretty much every home game from 2004-2015, but moved out of state so I’ve only seen a handful of games at Gampel the last 10 years.

With that in mind for me it was either Shabazz hitting the buzzer beater vs Florida in 2014 or Kemba hitting the floater to win as time expired vs Nova in 2011.

What say you?

Of the games I’ve been to, Texas in 2010 was the pinnacle. There were stretches during that game where the person next to me was screaming and I could barely hear what they were saying. If I remember correctly, ESPN was also having a lot of sound issues with the broadcast due to the noise.

The moment that I oddly think of for this question was the Louisville game in January 2014 (my freshman year).

We were getting hosed by the refs but were only down 6 at the half. Had pushed hard early in the second half but were still down like 8 when KO picked up a T and got ejected.

Gampel went freaking ballistic. I can’t remember who was shooting the free throws for UL, but I remember him missing both while the arena was shaking from the noise. Of the games I was there for in person, that was the loudest moment.

I am going to go against the majority. I went to the Houston game just before the shutdown of the country. That was loud especially where I was standing at. Loved seeing them win the last home game for that year.

Texas was my first game at Gampel and I was blown away by how intense it was but that Houston game was close (if not a complete super spreader event before we knew what that was).

89-90 Dream season after beating the Cuse a few days before and now having GTown in who was going to be #1 because Kansas lost the place was electric before tip off (HCC) never felt like that. And when they went up 14-0 and JT called a time out it’s never been that loud any time again it was unbelievable.

In no particular order (since 2008)
  • Texas 2010
  • Xavier 2022
  • Florida 2013
  • Houston 2020
That Texas 2010 was probably the loudest start to finish but that second half v. Xavier was a madhouse. That and Villanova 2021 at XL were the most badly in recent memory that a crowd wanted a game

I was in the student section when Kemba hit that floater in 2011 and it was beyond deafening. Worth the potential tinnitus down the line lol. That’s my vote.

I wasn't there, but from TV it seemed like the Dream Season GTown game with the opening 14-0 run and the first 10-15 minutes of the Rip freshman vs. Kansas after Kirk and Ricky were suspended were deafening. Anyone at either/both?

edit: Just realized this was Gampel only. My b.

How much did you drink that night Mau??? The Jan '90 G-town game was at the HCC. ;)

I wrote HCC in parenthesis how much are you drinking this morning?;) Problem is I didn’t read the details and assumed the Huskies in general. My bad, but that GTown game was louder than any Gampel game anyway.

And to answer your original question, A LOT!

Ray Allen vs Kerry Kittles. 1996. #6 vs #7 on Big Monday with Dicky V in his heyday.
The blizzard of '96 game - it ended up getting moved to Tuesday night. ESPN moved the game to ESPN2 which was just getting rolling at the time so ESPN allowed CPTV to pick up the feed in CT. Dicky V's first and only PBS broadcasted game. LOL

I lost my voice and my mind in that Texas game. I thought my hearing was impaired as we left. Felt like I had ear muffs on for 2 days.

It’s between Nova in 1996, which had an incredible buildup on the Allen vs. Kittles matchup, the Texas game in 2010, and a 2002 game vs. a then undefeated Miami where Johnny Selvie hit two free throws with 5 seconds to go to win it.

Honorable mention to the Joey C game against Georgetown, although that was just a short burst of crowd energy.
