I think Calhoun is on the Mt. Rushmore of college b-ball coaches, but the one player I think he undervalued was Giffey. Never though he used him right.
Not trying to derail the thread here, but our Last Coach never used Giffey right . . . until the very end. Omar Calhoun started at the beginning of 13/14. Injuries had taken their toll, however, and it became clear he was not a starter. Lasan Kromah then got virtually all the starts until . . . MARCH 13!!!! Wow. He had been a sub getting 20 minutes or so, and not many touches. How did he respond? He went on a 3 point shooting tear that was, undoubtedly, the impetus that pushed us over the top. All the other pieces were in place. A month earlier he was getting 14 minutes a game and no plays ran for him. He has got to be #1 on the list of a coach not knowing what he had. I remember a significant portion of members here always wanting to see him get more run. At least that one time, we were right.
