West Virginia @ Texas (12) - 1/28/19

Who will win this game?

My heart says West Virginia, but my head says Texas. Can't see them laying another egg after that near miss against Texas Tech. Maybe if Martin and Davenport have really hot shooting nights West Virginia can make a game of it, but they lack in depth.
 
I’ll be attending this game tonight. I just realized that the only two UT games I’ve seen this season have both been losses (MSU and the ugly-orange UT :) ). Maybe I bring them bad luck?
 
Here’s my take, want to watch WV as I usually have respected the coach but this years team seems a bit less than the usual Mountaineer teams we’ve seen into the past.

I will look in the bench for D’Janaye Boykin. She is currently on school #3 having transferred from PSU and sitting out again. Anyone know what happened?

Outstanding broadcast duo on the Vandy-SC game: Brenda VanLengen and Andraya Carter. Both are among the best.

I had heard Andraya Carter (TN alumni ) doing one of the TN losses (not sure which one) and being very
incisive in her analysis of TN shortcomings. I was under the impression it was a guest gig. Does she have a permanent announcing job?

I've heard her do several games; never thought it was guest/temp.
Yeah she's pretty good.
 
Holy moly! Vanderbilt went on a 12-0 run and has taken a 34-28 lead on South Carolina. Staley calls timeout.

Vanderbilt is finally getting healthy and it's showing.

She's been more or less a regular on the SEC Network since last year.

How many players is Vandy still missing?

They look very solid today, nothing like their record

This would be a huge ripple in the SEC if the Commodores could pull this upset and right their ship...see what I did there :p
 
WV leads 10-9 at media TO. Martin has 8. Holmes with 5.

Monday night is not a good night to draw fans to the Erwin Center. Attendance is a little dreary.

Tynice is pulling a Megan Walker and outscoring TX all by herself.

WV (mostly Tynice Martin) started off this game red hot and led by something like 17 at one point. But they cooled off by around mid 2Q and TX chipped away, got as close as 6 before WV had a mini run to go up by 11.

Audrey Warren, a key sub for TX, is on the bench but hasn’t played. I’d heard in their TXTech game she was out with concussion symptoms, and she has a very noticeable shiner that I can see from the other side of the arena.
 
WV has major foul trouble and no depth. Both of their bigs have 4 fouls with a whole quarter to play. Refs are calliing it pretty tight and that is murder on a team with no bench.

WV’s offense has gone very cold but TX is hardly capitalizing. Sutton did have a very nice outback to beat the 3Q buzzer and cut it to 8.

White picked up her 4th a minute ago. Still on bench.

He went to great lengths not to play Jordan, even playing Ekhelar with 4 fouls late in 3Q. But she hit a huge 3 after she replaced a fouled out Niblack in 4Q.
 
Shug Sutton hits a great shot to keep it at 4; time out. If WVA wins, it will be quite a courageous effort. Talk about your “back to the wall” situation.
