When are you guys going to learn? Never respond to a Wonkster post within ten minutes of its first appearance. I'm constantly modifying them for readability and comprehension. Sometimes even I can't understand them!

Dunno Wonk...when will I learn?

It seemed to me we were so worried about being outscored in the final five minutes, I thought everyone would appreciate a distraction.... :)

I bet this happened while you were in the country with the sandhill cranes. What happened on that trip anyway?? (I am interested, really - the cranes are very cool.)

FROZE our BUTTS off, but did see 75,000 cranes landing for the night... and then taking off in the AM. Caught glimpse of a whooping crane, five sharp tailed grouse dancing and 60-80 prairie chickens dancing. And ducks... TONS of ducks... SO many red heads. Wowza, since we've hunted them all but out of existence on the east coast.

WOW! That sounds amazing! Sure it was worth the butt-freezing!

And thanks for the prairie chicken reference. My husband went to college with a friend who, for his elective ornithology class, had to write a major paper on the prairie chicken. He became fascinated by them, and so by extension, did our whole group....that brings back fond memories of his interperative prairie chicken dance. (Yes, we all became prairie chicken fans!)

Will we be able to view any of this crane footage anywhere? That would be something to see.

Thanks for answering!!

My pleasure --- If you google Sandhill Cranes there are lots of videos. The snow geese were amazing, too....

I'm going someplace FAR warmer this weekend: Key West/Dry Tortugas for more birding. Wheeee!

Oh, and I'll match his dance to my step-brother's (all 6'3" of him) Blue Footed Booby dance.... "Heeeey, check out my feet! Heeeeey, check out my feet!"

When we go to Vermont in the fall we love to go to Dead Creek Wildlife Management Center and watch the snow geese migration. Amazing to see the flocks coming in for landings.

I bow to your step-brother's Blue Footed Booby Dance - I am sure it is far superior to a bunch of crazy collegians being prairie chickens!:D

We are off to Kennebunk Beach in Maine next weekend - not sure what I will find there besides lots of gulls...but you never know.

Enjoy the trip to the Keys/Tortugas - sounds awesome!! (Birding only or bonefishing, too?)
