It seems like in most of our biggest games when the game is over and all but the final score is a formality, the other team hits a desperation 3 from 10 feet behind the line. Off the top of my head it happened yesterday, the game Friday night against Iowa State, final 4 against Kentucky in 2011 and final 4 against Duke in 2004. It's just a strange thing that seems to be a part of the Mojo, I expect it at this point.

The one against Duke in 2004 is still vivid in my mind. Okafor goes to the foul line with two shots, UConn up by three and a couple of seconds remaining. You can read his lips, "I only have to make one." He missed the first but made the second for a four-point lead. Duhon then made a half-court three point shot, leaving UConn with a 79-78 victory. Emeka's made free throw was oh so sweet! I'll never forget that ending.

2011 was pretty much the same thing I believe. Bazz went to the line, missed one and made the 2nd one for a 4 point lead and Brandon Knight hit the 3 at the end.

Two thoughts - first @rbny1 - I read something about that shot moving more money in vegas as it negated UConn covering than any other shot. Millions of dollars changed hands on that one meaningless shot.

@superjohn - aren't you glad the one that would have made a difference missed in 2011? Scary to think how many went in and that one didn't.

I beleive that I posted elsewhere that this is gerat for the mojo. In 2004 against Duke & in 2011 against Kentucky a late three made the score (one point game in each case) appear to have been more of a nailbiter than it really was. We got two now which is twice as much mojo!

I felt good about the first one in 2011 though.. we defended their play EXTREMELY well and forced him into a long contested 3 (kinda like the one Harrison made yesterday.. lol).

To me it shows that those teams Uconn beat were pretty good - when Uconn's tough defense backed off they could make difficult shots.
