  • UConn beat USF 77-62 in a game that felt closer than the final score
  • #4 Stanford needs OT to beat Cal, 74-71
  • Minnesota beat #9 OSU, 76-65
  • #20 Georgetown rolls over #11 Rutgers, 54-36
  • Iowa beats #13 Purdue, 59-42
  • #14 Texas A&M nips Iowa State, 66-64
  • #16 Louisville plays Harry-ball but prevails over 'Nova, 62-58
  • Michigan State beats #18 Penn State, 83-77
  • #25 UNC squeaks by a weak Wake Forest team, 75-71
Tough weekend to be a ranked team.

boy i'll say. i watched some of Min vs. OSU, RU vs. GT, aTm vs ISU and tenn vs. UGA.

Prahalis and Hill are about all OSU has. i want to say OSU is way over rated being in the top 10, but there have been so many losses by teams in the 10-16 range that i'm not sure they are "undeserving". still, i hope they fall to 16+ by the end of the season cuz unless they are a 4 seed in UCONN's bracket, they are an easy easy W for literally ANY team ranked in front of them.

Kelsey Bone is a lazy player. seriously lazy. i watched her jog around the court, let defenders blow by her if she wasn't "in the mood", and hang her head a lot. no offense go Gary Blair, who is a favorite of many, but how does he let a kid on the court with that kind of work ethic?

i already commented about RU and Tenn in other threads. very interesting weekend of WCBB...

Delaware barely edged JMU in a back-and-forth contest. EDD shot poorly from the floor, but well at the line (I think she missed 2). JMU defended her fairly well in the conference tourney last year. This year, without Dawn Evans, JMU came up short at home.

DannyK got some air time.

Imho, Jan. and Feb. are dog days of bball similar to Aug. in MLB. The players, especially frosh, are tired and may have hit the wall mentally. They experience many aches and pains, ice packs, treatment, colds, flu, etc. Ranked teams have to be on as they have a target on them. It is tough to fight off every team's best game, even if is unranked USF or Cal. There would be more upsets if there was more talent, but "on any given night" still applies.

Cardfan is right about the Dog Days. The period between December finals and Jamuary classes is also tough. Considering those factors, the streaks--Stanford at Maples, UConn at home, UConn overall--are very, very impressive.
