Week of 12/18 Other Games

They lost by 20 to Citadel…..;that’s more than a poor season
Actually, it's 3% of a season, so can't be more.

Gosh, it's winter break and I still can't turn off my math teacher brain ;)

Providence got some AP votes this week. If they beat Butler this weekend, not unrealistic to expect them to be ranked next week!

.-.
That being said, this is why people sound so silly when they struggle to find losses on the schedule. Road league games are tough.
We came a few inches from beating Bill Self’s Kansas team in Lawrence without Castle, with Spencer playing on a rolled ankle, and Karaban playing with a dislocated finger. Its not silly to think we can go to Providence and win.

I seriously had to look up what game you were talking about. Figures it would be about your last coach.
Cincy is actually on their 2nd coach since the angry elf left

I’m 4 hours behind you currently, but you are correct, imagine doing it at anytime. Little too much celebration nog. And yes, I’m up early today, going fishing.
tight lines Friar. The team looked good last night. My gripes are more with a certain fella in DC and his schtick than it is with PC

Thanks. Interesting stat last night. Dual +25, no points.

Great win for PC. Congratulations to them and Kim English. Nothing like starting with an upset victory.

The broadcast team did a bad job of finding and showing it on replay (but also the refs missed it live and had to check on monitor to confirm it).

Still doesn’t seem like a flagrant. Slight contact due to the screen that was set. Just a really inexcusable possession from the refs. Didn’t change the outcome but a bad look.

Well, ,they did beat 'em, 72-57. And it was never close. And both the margin and the point totals were essentially the same as in the Friar's previous two wins over Brown and Sacred Heart. Let that sink in for a minute.

So how did they do it?

They didn't do it with an especially hot night from the 3-pt line (11 for 32, 34.4.%)
They sure didn't do it from the FT line (17 for 28).
They didn't do it with an especially tight handle (14 turnovers).
They didn't do it with a big rebounding advantage (38 to 35).
And they didn't do it with a big night from their star, Hopkins (11 vs 17 pt average).

Two numbers stand out: 17 assists on 22 field goals for the Friars; 7 assists on 18 FGs for Marquette. This resulted in overall 43.1% shooting for Providence, 32.1% for Marquette. It appears that Providence ran its offensive sets effectively and was able, defensively, to consistently break down Marquette's patterns. Chalk one up for Kim English over Shaka Smart. A kinder conclusion from Marquette's POV is that it was just one of those nights on the road where nothing whatever goes in the basket (They made 4 for 20 3-pointers). It's also true that the game was the usual foul fest you get at Providence (22 on Marquette, 18 on Providence) that destroys the rhythm of the game.

Another caution that strange things can happen on the road.

I missed the part where I said anything about not being able to win at Providence.

There was already a pretty significant gap in the rankings between us at #5 and Marquette at #6.

In fact, by ranking points, we were only 167 points behind #1, but 132 points ahead of #6 and over 300 ahead of #7 in the AP poll, and 81 points behind #1, but 76 ahead of #6 in the coaches poll. In other words, we are almost as close to #1 as to #6. And that's before the Marquette loss.

If we take care of business this week, that gap will be enormous. There is starting to emerge a top 5 (us, Purdue, Arizona, Kansas, and Houston) and everybody else.

Wow, you’ve been wronged. You can’t make this up, an entire fan base is this way. Incredible… I will repeat this, you are the reigning and 5 time National Champion. From what I can tell you have the best team again this year. Please stop whining like a little girls. Seriously stop.
Your condescending remarks aside, the question is, how do you handle when you have been wronged? Not when you are wrong, but when you are wronged.

he's at a lil program called ucla. needs more resources and help! how can he be expected to compete?
His team is heading to the BIG. It's obvious he would have been better off if UCLA joined the church league.

At least he's at a university with a mascot that has an apt description for an animal. What's Cincinnati's excuse?

What is a Bearcat mascot?
The word first appeared in print circa 1889 as a synonym for the giant panda. "Bearcat" is a simple translation of the Chinese word for panda-xiong mao-which means "bear-cat." The Binturong (Arctictis binturong) is a species of the family Viverridae, which includes the civets and genets.

Is a bearcat a bear or a cat?
Binturongs are also called bearcats, but that name is rather misleading since they are not related to bears OR cats. Instead, they are related to civets and fossas but look more like gigantic dust mops and smell like a freshly made batch of popcorn!

So they're actually the Rust Belt Fightin' Pandas?

Lmao we outbid UCLA for Cam? I figured Cam chose here because he and Danny are kindred spirits.

Anyways, you're welcome Kobe. Hoping we can make it a tradition
Mick doesn't want to admit that Cam simply preferred UConn. I think half these oh no, more NIL pleas are just excuses for coaches that lost out.

Some interesting games tonight with Baylor and Duke at MSG, undefeated Oklahoma at UNC, and a nightcap of Alabama at Arizona. Not too shabby for a Wednesday outside of UConn SHU, and Villanova vs Creighton.

Shoutout UConn/Marquette/Creighton for crushing it OOC and then spreading the wealth down to the other teams in BE play
