Week 8 preview (Dec. 27–Jan. 2)

ASU gets a make up game against Lipscomb.....game tipped at 2pm.

Opening of Pac season in SoCal "postponed".

Jeff Munn indicated ASU fans should mark conference home opening weekend against Washington schools Jan 7/9 in pencil.

edit - Devils win 70 - 54 (11 of 27 from threeland)

The Devils played their second home game in a row at Weatherford Center. I was on my way last week to the UC Irvine game when I received a text that the game had been moved to Weatherford Center on campus, the Devils practice gym with no. Fans allowed. Seems Desert Financial Center had suffered a power outage. Here we are 9 days later and ASU has yet to repair whatever caused the damage. Jeff Munn indicated he "hoped" that if the Washington game does take place on Jan. 7 that the repair would be completed on the power. Having attended ASIU some years back I do not share that confidence. Michael Crow is too busy with various development activities (and considering a run for governor) to worry about maintenance.

MSU survives Nebraska's late push to win 72-69. Clouden played most of the 2nd half with 4 fouls and still put up 32 points, going 15-17 from the line.

The upset of the day may have to go to NJIT for knocking off AMEAST favorites Stony Brook. The Sea Wolves had beaten St John’s, Columbia, Rutgers, and Washington State in non conference before falling to NJIT.

Aijha Blackwell out for Missouri vs South Carolina. Carolina w/o Lele Grissett and Saniya Rivers.

Interesting game too. MSU's bench was depleted in comparison to Nebraska's from what I could tell on TV.

Just heard Day-Wilson is out due to COVID protocols. Unfortunate timing with conference play starting.

So this seems a new thing where individual players can be sat down but the team can still play?

That helps explains the 53-28 deficit to VTech. with 3 minutes left in 3Q

And Miz up 41-40 over SC wih < 2 minutes in 3Q

Yeah... it would have been 53-37

As I said in chat... Kitley looked like a female Hakeem Olajuwon out there.... Day-Wilson playing wouldn't have done anything to slow her down. For my money... Kitley > Cunane.

The Lady Jack's take 7 to Moscow to take on the hapless Vandals, losers of 9 straight. Covid caused NAU to leave 5 players in Flagstaff including starters Maio and Rasheed.

This will be the first start for the Moran twins.

Edit-Jacks extend Vandal losing streak to 10 with a 76-63 win as they move to 3-0 in the Big Sky. Good win for the shorthanded Jacks as both Radford and Orndoff top 20 points.

This was a big opportunity for Princeton to get a meaningful win.

I think it was a disappointing cancellation for both programs. UCF's SOS ranks pretty well so I don't think they needed the win as much as Princeton but it would have been a quality road win to bolster the resume.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Kitley and Cunane play for the same AAU/HS program? I found that connection interesting.

And kudos to their coaches. They did a great job developing these players for the NCAA.

Same AAU team, different high schools. Cunane went to Northern Guilford. While Kitley went to Northwest Guilford. They probably live no more than five minutes from each other. I root for them both as I love when local kids do well athletically in college.. No matter which school they attend.

Is Leigha Brown on Michigan the best small forward in the country? I know her 3 ball has been a bit off to start the season, but her ability to handle the ball and her mid-range is deadly. I got carried away and said Destiny Henderson is the best point in the country after the Stanford game. I may be doing the same after seeing Michigan dominate OSU. I guess Rhyne Howard is the one I'm kind of forgetting about.

There's a lesson to be learned here about generalizing in superlatives from a sample size of one.

I don't know about the entire country, as she's got Ashley Joens', reigning Cheryl Miller winner in the same category I believe. She's damn good though

Alternate theory: Ohio State isn’t very good, and makes Leigha Brown look amazing. She’s good, but Ohio State shouldn’t be a Top 25 team.

Theory is partially correct. Ohio State isn't good, but damn, she carried Michigan on her back against Baylor when Hillmon fouled out.

She made a huge difference to the team since joining last season.

I really like Ashley Joens but I feel she plays mostly the 4. In their (ISU) starting lineup, I'd think her sister or LD would be more of their starting 3. I did caution that I may be forgetting someone, but tbh I don't think I have. I also do still think Destiny Henderson is the best point in the country, despite the game she had yesterday.

In the only Pac 12 game that actually happened today, Washington St. hammered Cal 69-42. Looks like the Bears were missing several key players, including Curry, Green and Daniels (#1, 4 and 5 scorers). Elsnitz started the game, and she's barely played at all this year, so that gives some idea of them being shorthanded.

Mississippi State’s Monday night game vs Kentucky has been postponed. They will play at South Carolina tomorrow evening @ 6:00 instead. South Carolina’s game vs Ole Miss originally scheduled was ppd earlier in the week.

My Aggies made a trip to Hampton to face off against on-time and now current Conference Foe Hampton.... they had some battles when both were part of the MEAC... including dashing Hampton's dreams of going to the NCAA in their last season in the MEAC. Unfortunately, A&T was down 9 players.. including their 2 best players an lost 85-71. The score was 66-60 going into the 4th quarter.... but my aggies ran out of gas.

Oh well, I guess I will have to find something else to watch tomorrow.

Any inside information on how we might be able to see this game? The ESPN website lists it but doesn’t show any TV.

TIA
