Week 6: non-UConn

Boy has UNC hit new low since hiring Bill Belicheck their great young QB has a great night nite on Sunday nite football and he will not allow any social media to praise him or even acknowlegde at the school. After getting their beaten bad by Clemson 38 to 10. UNC and Belicheck deserve each other...Jim Mora has class.

Tell that to last year’s team.
The difference is that they couldn’t stop a flag football team from scoring on them last year. It's wild to me that they have gone from a team that was all offense to a team that looks like something from the 1970's in terms of physicality. Who knows what will happen, and they will have to play 7 weeks in a row to end the season, but they look completely different from what they were.

UMass is showing no signs of giving up. They are talking about "over investing" $25M into the stadium. Which won't result in improvement on the field any time soon.

The good news is that I don't think anyone in the MAC has a winning record. They could win a freak game or two and finish in the middle of the conference and go 2-10!
I like that take but frankly, I don't root against UMass and I'm not saying that you are but just in general they're in a similar situation to us trying to build a program. If it's not us seeing them on the field, I'm always rooting for them.

Makes me all the more excited to see them at the Rent next year

UMass easily invests less than half of UConn. Not unusual for fired coaches to make more money as coordinators elsewhere. Maybe they get lucky in the MAC?

Mizzou played at UMass last season, I think the Tigers used it as a scared straight initiative, "If you guys don't get it together then this is where you will end up!".

You can't compare them to us. They have no institutional support. The stadium is on campus but it's like an abandoned archaeological site that the homeless want to live in. They keep hiring these guys with no head coaching experience and then give them a shovel to dig the Panama Canal.

That being said, I don't root against them.

a competent, competitive UMass program is a good thing for UConn. it will mean more eyeballs on the region.
I'm not saying we need to be "fans" of UMass, but I believe we must be full supporters of their success. We should be advocates for them in the national CFB discourse. It would be very sad to lose a regional FBS partner who, if not for their garbage quality, would make the ideal rival/nemesis.

Jim Mora showed that you CAN win games being a northeast G6 school, and achieve a baseline level of respect from the national CFB world.

How on earth that AD still has a job, is truly beyond me. the only logical conclusion for his continued tenure there is that the admin DON'T care about football. But then they announce $25M facility spend? make up your mind, UMass...

Previously I shared this view (UMass getting better helps us). However, that was when UMass shared our status as FBS Independent. Now that they have joined the MAC I don't see a reason to support them and I think they are just another competitor. It's in our interest to be (prohibitively) the best FBS school in New England. Also - we never got the trophy.

totally hear you.

To be the "best" you need others to exist... was my point. the title of "best" means less if UMass football doesn't exist to challenge us and BC/Syracuse, for it.

and yes - trophy please lol

I still cannot believe that Joe took the UMess job. He's a better coach than that place deserved, but he isn't a miracle worker.
If he can make them a mid-tier MAC team they might make a statue of him. Except they would never spend the money, of course.

That said, I have no idea how he is going to make that program mid-tier MAC. He has to wake up wondering if he has dead-ended his career.

Yeah they are in the MAC but the underlying issues still haven't been addressed and the HC and the AD aren't even on the same page.
