Week 6 Dec 11 to Dec 17, 2023

Are you actually missing an opportunity to invoke your signature slogan for an in-state rivalry game? Where is the real Triad and what have you done with him?

I'm disappointed in myself. I'll try to do better the next time.

How does Kim get thrown out of a game against Northwestern St ?

Well at least she can tell her players that she doesn't phone it in, no matter how lame the opponent.

Closing out week 6 - Top 25 team losses:
#18 Louisville to #17 UConn
#20 Creighton to #19 Marquette
#23 UNLV to Seton Hall
#24 Miami to #10 Baylor

It's called finals. Yes, even in this era, we still must occasionally prioritize the student in "student-athlete."
Totally forgot about finals and didn't realize schools schedule around that. Pretty cool.

Can't say for sure that every school does, but I know Stanford does. Which makes it hard to get marquee games, because we don't travel the +/- ten days around finals, and I'm guessing a lot of other good programs don't either.

That said, they don't/can't for March (Stanford is on the quarter system, like many Pac-12 schools), because there's so much uncertainty given conference tourney and March Madness.
Doesn’t Q1 end at thanksgiving?

Anyone else impressed by Marquette? I have only watched their game vs Creighton, but I came away impressed.

Nope. They just beat the Mighty App State 99-91 yesterday. The same app state team that lost to Davidson 64-41.. And Norfolk State 64-57. So not impressed. If they beat UConn in a few weeks then i may change my mind. Not impressed with Creighton either.

Not easily impressed by most teams, so im not singling out the Big East.

14 undefeated — 6 from b12!
7 winless
At least 8 of the 14 have played schedules thus far that I would categorize as either "atrocious" or "extremely atrocious"

Check out the astronomical SOS numbers for the bottom half of this list.

????????????

Scheduled time between the end of classes and the beginning of exams. Time to decompress for a bit, then get mentally prepared and focused on the task ahead. At least that how it was back in the dark ages. Varies school to school.

Ah. Gosh...I don't remember us having something like that at NC State. It seemed classes ended...we had a couple of days off and then Finals started. At the College where I teach now, classes always end on a Monday and then Final Exams start the very next day with no break.

Nope. At least at Stanford, there's one week back, and then reading week, and then finals. Both men's and women's teams were off from Dec. 3 to 15 for finals.
Interesting. I swear that 30 years ago Stanford used to have December off, but started Q2 like Jan 2.

Not easily impressed, but High Point is in your top 25?

Nope, I was there in the 70s (BS MS '75). "Reading week" was called "Dead WeeK" to be used for finals prep. My daughter graduated in 2015 and same schedule.

I didn't realize UCLA was so young (mostly sophomores) until I saw a graphic during the game last night. With the exception of Charisma Osborne, all impact players will be back next season. Barring off-season transfers and injuries, it looks like UCLA will be able to maintain this level of excellence for the next 2-3 years...and possibly longer.

Add in a solid recruiting class this ( 14, 24, 27) year and jump on the next class with Sienna Betts. You have the makings of an annual contender program.

But they have to keep SoCal in their rear view mirror. Odd to think that most Cali prospects will be looking at playing in the Big.

I was just thinking that I bet Geno tried to get someone to travel there as Duquesne did for Kia's homecoming.

Well, god bless Lance White and shame on Tory Verdi. Yet another reason to root against them this year.

Seeing that it was Pitt, that makes sense to an extent. That team had a couple Canadians from Montreal, QC before they transferred out after White's firing.

It could have been seen as a homecoming game for them as well since Montreal is a 6 hour drive and a short jaunt if taking the train.
